Suspected Fulani Militias Kill 20 In Plateau Village

At least 20 people were killed when unknown gunmen stormed some communities in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State in the early hours of Monday.

The gunmen reportedly arrived Zakupwang village in Fan district at midnight on Monday and attacked the villagers.
Survivors of the attack said the gunmen were armed Fulani militias.

The attack is a cog in the wheel of progress of the peace initiatives of Plateau State governor, Mr. Simon Lalong, who constituted a 14-man committee almost immediately after he assumed office to reconcile the Berom farmers and Fulani herdsmen.

The joint military task force operating in the area has not confirmed the attack.

But a member representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Istifanus Gyang, confirmed the killing in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.

Gyang said, “We have received with shock the Killings of 20 persons in early hours of yesterday through violent attacks on seven villages in Barkin-Ladi local government area.

“The renewed attacks are least expected at a time when concerted peace efforts and dialogue meetings are ongoing between Berom and Fulani stakeholders”.
