Chelsea Doctor Quits Weeks After Mourinho Criticism
Chelsea first-team doctor Eva Carneiro has left the club six weeks after she was criticised by manager Jose Mourinho.
Carneiro is understood to be weighing up her legal position and despite request from the Premier League champions will not return to work.
The Gibraltarian sports medicine specialist was relegated to training ground roles in the wake of Mourinho’s famous criticism of he Blues’ medical staff for being “naïve” on treating Eden Hazard during their Premier League opening 2-2 draw at home to Swansea in August.
The Portuguese treatment of Carneiro was part of the agenda at this month’s regular Fifa quarterly meeting.
Mourinho said: “They were impulsive and naive.”
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off against Swansea on 52 minutes and the hosts were later reduced to nine men for some time after staff ran on to the pitch to treat Eden Hazard when he was felled.
Players are expected to leave the field of play before receiving treatment on the pitch.
