Ambode Seeks Strict Usage Of Life Jackets On Waterways
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, on Wednesday began his campaign of Water Transport Safety Awareness Programme with distribution of 2,400 life jackets donated by Total Nigeria Plc to students of primary, secondary school and boat operators in Sabokoji community, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
He also used the occasion to appeal to parents to ensure their wards use them while being transported on the waterway.
Represented by the Managing Director of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Mrs Abisola Kamson, the governor said the distribution was part of efforts to improve safety on waterways, adding that the jackets was particularly designed for the students who would get to school via ferry.
“Today’s distribution of life jackets to students in Sabokoji community in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area of Lagos State is part of concerted efforts by the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to improve safety on Lagos waterways”, the LSWA managing director said.
Kamson further advised parents to insist that their wards use the life jackets when on board and that the life jackets should not just be kept at home, adding that operators too should always use it and possibly keep some inside their boats or ferries.
