Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has lambasted the English FA for slamming Diego Costa with a three-match ban over his role in a melee with an Arsenal player last weekend.
The Spanish player who was a thorn in the flesh of Arsenal’s defenders during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat of Arsenal and was involved in an altercation with Laurent Koscienly, which led to the sending off of Gabriel Paulista.
The Arsenal defender got his red card rescinded, but Costa was banned in retrospect following an evidence from a footage that he slapped Koscienly on the face and also hit him on the chest.
Mourinho has now expressed his disgust with the English FA over the ban, stating that he does not want to talk too much for fear of suspension.
According to Goal.com, he said: “We know something which is that retaliation is allowed now. You can do it.
“You cannot compare a leg almost broken with men’s discussion, you cannot compare that with a leg almost broken. That’s what it was, a men’s discussion.
“I don’t comment [any further] because if I bring examples and go deep and bring feelings into the discussion a big suspension for me will be waiting and I don’t want that. The team doesn’t need that.
“We lost an important player for three match and don’t need to lose their manager. So I prefer to keep calm and quiet.”
The Chelsea boss however, had nice words for Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel, following his display in the club’s 4-1 whitewash of Walsall in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.
Goals from Ramires, Loic Remy, Kenedy and Pedro helped the Blues qualify for the fourth round of the League Cup and Mikel, who was deployed in a three-man midfield alongside Ramires and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, shone greatly for the club.
After the game Mourinho said: “We brought a good solid defence and the midfield was really good. Mikel and Ramires played amazingly well,” Mourinho told Westlondonsport.
“I analysed Walsall before. I was surprised with the quality of their play.
“They were a different team to normal in League One; not so physical, and technically fast. They were very well organised.
“I haven’t found a team in League One playing the quality of football that they tried to play.”
This commendation is sure to cheer Nigeria’s coach, Sunday Oliseh’s heart, as he only recently invited the midfield star for his next series of games against Cameroon and Congo.
Recall that Mikel, who only recently welcomed a set of twins from his Russian girlfriend, is being increasingly linked with a move away from the Bridge.
