Govt Resolves Ojobo Community Leadership Crisis
The Delta State Government has directed the swearing in of the immediate past chairman of Ojobo community in Burutu Local Government Area, Mr. Dafe Ekereke, as substantive chairman of the community for the next one year.
The state Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, who gave the directive over the weekend at the instance of the state government, noted that the action was taken in good faith as part of measures to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the community.
Otuaro, while addressing leaders of Ojobo community at Government House Annex, Warri, said that the present administration led by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is conscious of the safety and security of its citizens and assured that Ojobo community as part of the state would be protected from those who want to make peace impossible.
“As a government, we will not want a situation where there will be breakdown of law and order in any community in the state. We will not want any single harm to be occasioned on the people of Ojobo because we value our citizens”, he said.
He further directed the substantive chairman to meet with the relevant quarters and ensure that they complete the process of bringing in their representatives to be part of the governing council in the community.
He also directed that, the substantive chairman as well as other stakeholders and the ministry of justice should look into the electoral laws (the constitution of Ojobo community) and seek proper ways of amendment on how to elect people into different offices in the community in future.
He noted that this move become necessary in order to meet international practices and avoid the constant crisis emanating from the community during communal election period.
While calling on one of the chairmanship candidates, Mr. Tissa Tou Angele to stop parading himself as chairman forthwith, arr. Otuaro noted that Ojobo is a respected notable community in the state haven produced vibrant leaders and urged all sons and daughters of the community to continue to work in harmony for the benefit of the community
At the occasion was member representing Burutu11 constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Kennedy Daubry, Chairman, Burutu Local Government Area, Hon. Ebikeme Clark, Deputy Chief Of Staff, Hon. Steve Eruotor, as well as Hon. Asupa Forteta among others.
