Omatsola Assures Of Okowa’s Policy Commitment

THE Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Delta state, Rev. Mrs. Omatsola William, said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is bent on delivering on his SMART Agenda policies which are being demonstrated in his educational programmes.

Williams made this remark during her inspection of the near-completion reconstruction of school buildings at the Women Affairs Nursery and Primary School, along Summit Road in Asaba.

She stated that because the school was tight and inadequate, the pupils were relocated to the Model School at the Government Reservation Area (GRA), adding that because the Model Schools were established for a purpose which the governor insisted must not be defeated, directed that the place be put in proper shape and pupils relocated back.

She noted that Governor Okowa, despite the paucity of fund in the state, made fund available and within two weeks, the school blocks were reconstructed and ready to be put into use, adding that her inspection was to ensure the job was according to specification and assess level of job done to enable the school children return to a more safe and conducive environment for learning.

While commending the promptness in rehabilitating the school and spate of work, as the contractor was only mobilized to site two weeks ago, she urged the contractor to ensure that the finishing touches were done in the next few days to enable children return back to school fully on Monday.

“The safety and security of our children are of great essence to us, we do not want them to get injured. You have to ensure the job is done soon and get the place cleared. I will come back in the next few days to inspect the level of compliance”, she charged the contractor.

The Contractor, Mr. Oswald Efekodha, who promised that the school will be fully ready in the next two days, said that the landscaping is of urgent importance.

He said that he would be commencing work on the landscaping shortly to enable the flood in the school be channeled out and stated that the drainage outside the school would need to be properly done to carry the flood which would flow out from the school premises.
