Three Die, 7 Hospitalized As Houses Are Demolished In Zaria
At least three persons have been confirmed dead with several others receiving treatment at various hospitals in Zaria, Kaduna State following the demolition of their houses.
Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i had ordered the demolition of structures illegally built on lands owned by the state government, especially, those within education institutions.
According to Daily Trust, the dead persons were among those whose houses behind the Alhudahuda College in Zaria were demolished by the Kaduna State Urban Property and Development Agency (KASUPDA).
One Ali Yayo, a resident of the community behind Alhudahuda, whose house was demolished, was said to have suddenly slumped and died.
“There were also Sani Anle and Murtalele who also died after their houses were demolished. At least, seven residents of the area are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Zaria. One of them is Abubakar Mai Sirfani, who lost his new house in the demolition”, a victim told Daily Trust on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a Kaduna-based lawyer, Barrister John Achimugu, has instituted a suit against the Gov. El-Rufa’i, over the demolition of a whole community in Zaria.
The case was instituted on Friday at the State High Court, Kaduna but no date has been fixed yet for hearing.
