Super Falcons thrash Katsina Spotlight Queens 7-0
Abuja – The Super Falcons on Thursday in Abuja thrashed Katsina Spotlight Queens 7-0 in a friendly match to prepare for the 11th All-Africa Games (AAG) holding in Brazzaville, Congo.
The match was played at the astro-turf pitch of the FIFA Goal Project at the National Stadium.
Alaba Adenusi opened the game with a goal just a minute into the match, while Alheri Ayuba scored another goal in the 25th minute.
Ginika Ikeh scored the third goal four minutes later, followed by the fourth goal by Anam Imo in the 37th minute of the match.
The Queens made some good offensive efforts, but none of them was converted into goals.
However, Mercy Amanza scored the fifth goal for the Falcons in the 54th minute, with Ayuba scored her second goal some minutes later.
Chinwe Ihezuo closed the game with the seventh goal in the 88th minute of the match.
Christopher Danjuma, the Head Coach of the Super Falcons, later told NAN that his players’ performance in the match was satisfactory.
“Today’s match was satisfactory because it is not about the goal scoring of the game, but about the tactical approach.
“Envisaging the type of teams and games we will be playing in our group in Congo, I should say I am satisfied with what I saw today.
“Every time we train, we keep working on all areas, and we work on goal scoring and our reactions,’’ he said.
Danjuma also added that he was optimistic of the Falcons’ progress at every stage of the competition in Congo.
On his part, coach Aminu Shaibu of Kastina Spotlight Queens told NAN that the game was a good one for his team in spite of the massive scoreline.
“If football is all about winning and losing, therefore the game was a good one for us since the game of football is about winning and losing.
“My girls did well and since we are here to prepare the Falcons for the AAG, I am okay with the outcome of the match.
“We will go back to the drawing board and work on areas that need improvement,’’ he said. (NAN)
