Bayelsa PDP Makes Peace With Aggrieved Members
A meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Peace Committee for Bayelsa State, was held in in Yenagoa, the state capital on Sunday with a call on all aggrieved members and stakeholders in the State to close ranks and work for the re-election of Governor Seriake Dickson ahead of the December 5 governorship polls.
The meeting, which was convened at the instance of former President Goodluck Jonathan, was chaired by Acting Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, Haliru Mohammed.
The meeting also resolved to reverse the suspensions and expulsions placed on some high profile members of PDP, who have despite the internal squabbles within its rank and file, remained in the PDP, unlike those, who defected to the opposition.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting, the Bayelsa PDP Secretary, Godspower Keku, explained that, the decision was taken in the best interest of the party, especially with a crucial election around the corner.
According to him, the decision to rescind the suspensions and expulsions, was taken on the request of Governor Seriake Dickson, who is the leader of the party in the State.
He, however, pointed out that the lifting of the suspensions was still subject to the ratification of the State working committee, which is expected to deliberate on it soon.
Mr. Keku commended them for keeping faith with the PDP, despite the pressures to defect, like a number of others, who could not resist the temptation, despite having reaped bountifully from the PDP, since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in 1999.
Some of those affected by the decision include Senators Emmanuel Paulker and Nimi Barigha Amange, Ayakeme Whiskey, Marie Ebikake, Waripamowei Dudafa, Ebikitin Diongoli and Remi Kuku, among others.
