Tompolo: Military patrol Oporoza Kurutie, Okerenkoko, Kunukunuma with gunboats
SECURITY operatives continued the search for former Niger- Delta militant leader , Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, in the creeks of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, probably suspecting that he was taking refuge at a hideaway locality.
The security agencies could not produce him in court on Friday, as ordered by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, which renewed a bench warrant for his arrest, penultimate Monday. A number of riverine residents, who spoke to Saturday Vanguard on phone, yesterday, said soldiers in four gunboats were seen patrolling Oporoza, Okerenkoko, Kurutie, Kunukunuma communities monitoring the movement of people and boats.
It is believed that security agents were keeping tight surveillance to track suspected contacts of the ex-militant leader for possible clue on his whereabouts. The residents, however, said there has not been massive deployment of troops as feared after President Muhammadu Buhari’s announcement to the effect on Monday.
But, the people remain apprehensive despite that the soldiers have not invaded any community as widely feared.
