EFCC seeks court’s order to seize Tompolo’s property
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, brought an ex-parte application before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos seeking for an order to seize all property belonging to former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo), pending his arrest and arraignment before the court.
The embattled former militant leader was recently declared wanted by EFCC, following his failure to appear in court to face trial on the charge preferred against him.
Tompolo and the former Director of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi and eight others were accused by EFCC of converting the money belonging to the agency to personal use.
Tompolo is yet to appear in court, but had last week, through his counsel, prayed the court to vacate the bench warrant issued for his arrest.
The judge handling the case, Justice Ibrahim Buba, had on January 12, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Tompolo. It renewed the order on February 8, though counsel to Tompolo said they had been unable to get a copy of the ruling to allow them appeal against same.
