BVN: FG eliminates 23,846 ghost workers, saves N2.3bn monthly

The Federal Government has eliminated 23, 846 ghost workers from its pay roll, thus saving about N2.293 billion monthly in what should have been paid out to non-existent workers or those who draw multiple salaries from government coffers.

The feat, according to the Special Adviser to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Festus Akanbi, was achieved through the Bank Verification Numbers, BVN-based staff audit and enrolment to the  Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.

He said in a statement that more investigations were on-going in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

He said.“The Federal Government is also taking actions to pursue recovery of salary balances in bank accounts as well as any pension contributions in respect of the deleted workers. This involves active collaboration with the concerned banks and the National Pension Commission, PenCom.

“Due to the fact that personnel costs represent over 40 per cent of total government expenditure, the Federal Government will continue to strengthen its payroll controls. It plans to undertake periodic checks and to utilise computer Assisted audit techniques under its new continuous audit programme.

“This will ensure that all payments are accurate and valid. Requirements for new entrants joining the Federal Civil Service have also been enhanced to prevent the introduction of fictitious employees in future.

“The ongoing exercise, which is part of the cost-saving and anti-corruption agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is key to funding the deficit in the 2016 budget, as savings made will ultimately reduce the amount to be borrowed.”

He explained that the Federal Government would not accede to the request of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, that its members be co-opted into the panel investigating the cases of indicted civil servants because the investigations were of a criminal nature and would, therefore, be handled by the  appropriate investigative agencies.

7,000 persons displaced in Fulani herdsmen, Agatu farmers’ clash in Benue

MAKURDI—INDICATION emerged weekend that no fewer than 7,000  persons were displaced in the wake of the crisis between Fulani herdsmen and Agatu farmers of Benue State.

The displaced persons who were sacked from Okokolo, Akwu, Ocholonya, Adagbo, Ugboku and Aila by the rampaging herdsmen are currently camped at the Ochi Idoma square in Otukpo, Ugbokpo, Adoka, Ojantele, Ikobi and other neigbouring communities.

Speaking to reporters in Otukpo, one f the refugees, Elder Sani Echioda, an indigene of Ayila lamented that the condition in the camp was terrible and called on public spirited individuals, the state and federal governments to urgently come to their aid.

He said: “We sleep on bare floor since we don’t have mattress or mats. It is quite a difficult situation as we are exposed to mosquitoes and all kinds of insects and reptiles during the day and at night. The absence of medical officers at the crowded camp is also a disturbing factor, and you can see that the entire camp is not suitable for human habitation.”

While recalling last week’s invasion of Agatu, Echioda said it was like an operation to vipe out the inhabitants of Agatu, “till today, the Fulani herders are still in our communities causing mayhem. As am talking to you, their cows have taken over our land. In fact we believe that it is the government of Nasarawa State that is fighting us; the peace Governor Almakura claims to be making is a deceit. They should tell the world who provided the two helicopters which flew into Abogbe and Okokolo to provide ammunitions for the Fulanis.”

Similarly, Rev Fr. John Attah of the Justice, Development and Peace of Otukpo Catholic Diocese, who also spoke to reporters in Otukpo, bemoaned the lack of coordination and poor management of the displaced persons’ camps.

According to him, officials of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, who carried out on the spot assessment of the crisis provided some mattresses, mats, guinea corn and maize, but “the situation still requires further attention from the  National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

While putting the figure of the displaced persons in Otukpo alone at 7,000, said “I shed tears when I saw old women running from their ancestral homes seeking refuge. It is pathetic.”

A NIGER-DELTA youth leader and activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be careful in handling the ‘thorny’ issues against    former `General Officer Commanding’, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND,    High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, to avoid giving room for the emergence of more dangerous militants in the region.

He said they are many loyalists of the former warlord in the region were ready to resort to violence and destroy oil facilities as being witnessed now because of the issue he is having with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

His words:    ‘’Government should not create loopholes for more dangerous militants suppressed by    Tompolo’s    presence from taking advantage of his issue with the government to cause more havoc in the region.”

Murdered MTN staff’s phone found with land agent

•The suspect Abidun & •The victim David

Operatives of the Lagos state investigation Bureau have arrested a 46-year-old land agent for been in possession of a phone of an MTN staff who was murdered on his way to work. It was learned that, the suspect identified as Abidioun Fabore, was nabbed after police investigations revealed that he was using the smart phone of David Olatunji Olawunmi who was murdered around tipper garage bus stop in Mowe.

Late David Olatunji Olawunmi left his house in Goshen Estate, Redeem Camp in Mowe at about 5:30 am to join their staff bus at Mowe tipper Garage but was robbed and stabbed to death by unknown hoodlums. His body was later recovered at tipper garage without his phone According to a close family relative (names with held) who spoke to Crime Guard. Said the source: “It was his wife who lives outside the country that alerted us (family members) that something was wrong, as she was speaking with him on the phone early that morning when all of a sudden the line went dead.

According to his wife they were both discussing that morning when he was going to work. She said ‘Later I didn’t hear anything again from his end. I called his line back severally, but it was unanswered. Later the line was switched off’. It was at this point she became suspicious and called us to help her reach her husband. True to her suspicion, when we called David’s line it was switched off and when we sent someone later to his place his corpse was found at the bus stop in Mowe.   Thereafter we alerted the police and his corpse was deposited at the mortuary.”

It was gathered that after the ugly incident, one Mr. Wale , on behalf of the deceased family reported through a petition to the Commissioner of Police that on the 21st  of October his brother named David Olatunji Olawunmi, a staff of MTN communication who left his house in Goshen Estate Redeem Cap Mowe at about 5:30 am to join their staff bus at Mowe tipper garage was robbed and stabbed to death by unknown hoodlums. His body was later found at tipper garage without his phones.

According to the police, during investigation, the analysis conducted on one of the victim’s phones revealed that the phone was used on the October, 22, 2015 days after the victim’s death. It was further revealed that the said subscriber was one Biodun Fabore. He was consequently arrested and on interrogation, he admitted being the owner of the sim card. He claimed to have bought the said phone but could not produce the source. He also claimed to have given the phone to one of his boys who he could not produce.

Suspect account

According to 46-year-old Abidioun Fabore, “I am a land agent; I have two wives, and I have four children. My first wife, a hairdresser gave birth to three while the second who rents film bore one for me.

I didn’t steal the phone; neither did I kill the owner of the phone. I actually bought the phone from one Idowu for N11, 000. Idowu lives in my neighbourhood. I am not lying. Idowu is known as Yaya in Ikorodu while he bears Idowu at Mowe. We work together as land agents.

The annoying aspect is that sometime after I bought the phone from Idowu, he stole in one of the building sites where we worked. That was when we chased him away. We had to meet with the Baale of the community and report the activities of Idowu to him; it was the Baale that chased him out. Right now he has escaped to Ikorodu area.

Sometime in January, the police arrested my wife during investigation, they invited me but I refused to go because I didn’t know the crime she committed. I thought she was arrested because of a land issue . If I knew it was this phone issue I would have showed myself. I would have arrested the people who sold the phones to me. After my wife was granted bail she traced Idowu to his house in Mowe but he is at large.

Tyga’s Range Rover up for repossession after he failed to make payments

It appears there is more money problems for Tyga as his Range Rover is up for repossession.According to TMZ,it’s the same Range Rover he collected back from Blac Chyna after they split TMZ reports
We’ve learned, a repo company has been hired to reclaim a 2013 G-Wagon Tyga owned … it’s the same one he gave to Blac Chyna. Remember, Tyga had it repainted last August and Kylie was seen driving it to her birthday dinner at Nobu. It looked like it was her birthday present, but she denied it.

According to the docs we’ve seen, Tyga hasn’t made payments on the SUV since October, and now the repo company is on the hunt. The docs ID Kylie as Tyga’s girlfriend and give her address as a possible place to repo the G-Wagon.

Our repo sources say the company has been trying to get the whip since last month, but they’ve been thwarted because it’s been parked at Kylie’s house and she’s behind 2 security gates.

This is the latest in what seems to be a series of Tyga’s financial woes. He was slapped with tax liens totaling $120,000 and also faced eviction for non-payment of rent.

How Delta communities assist police in fighting crime

The fight against crime has never been the singular responsibility of the police. Members of the public help in their own ways to ensure the police effectively carry out their primary responsibility of preventing and fighting crime. This has been in the form of reporting threat to lives and properties in their neighbourhoods to the police, and giving relevant information during police investigations.

The ante has been upped lately with the establishment of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), one of whose responsibilities is “to duly and legally establish means of raising funds so as to meet its financial obligations and commitments to crime prevention.” Saturday Vanguard investigations revealed that some communities in Delta State, under the aegis of the PCRC, are doing their bits in assisting the police in achieving their set goals, both in terms of collaboration in crime fighting and provision of facilities for the police formations in the state.

Perimeter fencing of Ughelli Area Command

According to a senior police officer at the Ughelli Police Station, in Ughelli North LGA of the state, one of the projects executed through community efforts to assist the Ughelli Area Command about three years ago, was the construction of a perimeter fence for the Command Headquarters, when Mr. Awosola Awotinde was the Area Commander.

The police officer who pleaded anonymity, said the project was commissioned by the then Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba on April 12, 2013.

He said another project was the building of a conference hall also by the Ughelli PCRC. The hall was commissioned on August 7, 2015 by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Akali.

Construction of office block, hall at Ebrumede

Commenting on the good efforts of the PCRC, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Celestina Kalu explained that the State Command was synergizing and cooperating with them in achieving their objectives.

She said: “They have been trying within their capabilities. Recently, we went to commission an office block building and a hall built at Ebrumede Division by the PCRC; this was sometime in January. The same was done at Ughelli sometime in August last year.

“There are a lot of things they have done in the state and they too cooperate with us, as well as even supporting vigilantes in their respective areas via provision of stipends and other basic items and logistics needed for the operations of these vigilantes.”

Construction of Administrative Block, Officers’ Mess in Warri

The latest in the efforts of the PCRC in the state in assisting the police is the planned construction of multi-million naira Administrative Block and Officers’ Mess at the Nigeria Police B Division Headquarters, Okumagba Layout, Warri. According to a source in the Division PCRC, the project is actually multi-phased with the construction of a security wall, the quarter guard and the charge room, which have already been completed with funds raised by some well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies, associations, trade unions and religious leaders in the community who are mostly members of the PCRC. A commissioning/inauguration/appeal fund launching has been planned for March 10, with the State Commissioner of Police expected to be in attendance.

Challenges

On the challenges of the Delta State Police Command, Kalu sited the non-availability of communication gadgets as its major constrain, saying, “We basically need communication gadgets so that we can have effective communication across board.

“The gadgets we use presently only work in Asaba and not even in every part of Asaba. It is supposed to be all round Delta State because we have a lot of facilities in the state. “If the communication is working well, when somebody is kidnapped, we would be able to communicate with all the patrol vehicles to be at alert, but for now, we just rely on GSM and you know that is very unreliable, so this is one of our major challenges.”

DSS nab fake colonel, 2 others over N4bn bribery allegation

THE Department of State Services, DSS, yesterday, paraded three suspected fraudsters over alleged claimed that the Director General of State Services, DGSS, Lawal Musa Daura collected the sum of N4billion from the PDP Governors of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Abia and Taraba States to influence the judgment of the Supreme Court in their favour in the recently decided electoral cases by the court

The suspects, Usman Ahmed Danmallam and Nura Shehu Lawal Giwa (aka Marafan Zazzau) were arrested on 17th February, 2016 at Unguwar Sarki, Kaduna North LGA of Kaduna State, while Hussaini A. Monguno (aka Colonel) was arrested in Abuja. Parading the suspects in Abuja, an operative of the Service, Mr. Abdullahi Garba, said the suspects were also to misinform President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian public that the DGSS had acquired choice properties in Maitama and Asokoro areas of Abuja.

Mr. Garba noted that the overall objective was to scare the DGSS and put him under pressure just for the group to extort money from him to serve their pecuniary interest. He also revealed Hussaini A. Monguno (aka Colonel), who never served in the Nigerian Army, had claimed that he was recruited and trained as a Body Guard towards the end of former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) regime, but served Late General Sani ABACHA (rtd) who addressed him as Colonel.

According to the statement; “The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to draw the attention of the public to the infamous activities of some unscrupulous elements who have resorted to condemnable tactics aimed at blackmailing and extorting money from unsuspecting and innocent people. “The group uses scaremongering, social climbing and name dropping to hoodwink their victims into parting with money to avoid such victims’ names being tarnished. The activities of this group have become widespread that the DSS have decided to alert law abiding Nigerians and residents.

“A pertinent fact that investigations have revealed is that this group, in order to further their illegal act, is taking advantage of the clear and sustained anti-corruption war being waged by this administration. “A method used by the group is to tell lies against their victims and also plant rumours about them in certain government circles so as to create the impression that the targets are corrupt and have breached legal procedures in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“The aim is usually to make these targets seek their attention and invariably sort out with them based on negotiated sums of money or they will threaten to “report the matter to the President. “

“A typical instance is the arrest of the trio of Usman Ahmed Danmallam and Nura Shehu Lawal Giwa (aka Marafan Zazzau) on 17th February, 2016 at Unguwar Sarki, Kaduna North LGA of Kaduna State and Hussaini A. Monguno (aka Colonel) in Abuja. This three-man gang had perfected plans to blackmail the DGSS solely based on falsehood.

“The group claimed that the DGSS collected the sum of N4 billion from the PDP Governors of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Abia and Taraba States to influence the judgment of the Supreme Court in their favour in the recently decided electoral cases by the court. They were also to misinform the President and in fact, the Nigerian public that the DGSS had acquired choice properties in Maitama and Asokoro areas of Abuja. “The overall objective was to scare the DGSS and put him under pressure just for the group to extort money from him to serve their pecuniary interest.

JAMB: Lagos cancels monthly sanitation for Feb

The Lagos State Government (LASG) on Friday, lifted the restriction order on human and vehicular movements during this month’s environmental sanitation slated for tomorrow (February 27).

The order was to allow students, invigilators and other stakeholders participate effectively in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the examination was expected to hold across the country on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Mr Tunde Awobiyi, the Information Officer, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, made this known in a statement he signed and released to newsmen on Friday.

The statement said that the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, had directed residents of the state to still observe the day by cleaning their homes and environments.

Adejare said that it became imperative for the state government to waive the restriction so as not to jeopardise the future of the candidates whose counterparts in other parts of the federation would write the same examination.

“As a responsible and responsive government, we value the education of our children very dearly and, therefore, resolved to relax the order in the interest of the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

He urged residents of the state to actively participate in this month’s sanitation, despite the lifting of the restriction of movement order.

“We should concentrate on cleaning of drains in our frontages as we are gradually approaching the rainy season.

“ The issue of sanitation has become very critical, especially with the geometrically rising population of the state, thus making the regular clean-up necessary for a healthier, cleaner and sustainable environment.

“As we gradually approach the rainy season, Lagosians should shun acts that can contribute to flooding by not dumping their wastes in unauthorised places like canals and drainage channels.

“Lagosians should not patronise cart pushers who end up dumping the wastes into canals and the lagoon, this is how we can all assist to make the state de-flooding programme a success,’’ he said.

He urged all Lagosians to rise up and take sanitation of their environments very important adding that, “This is one of the practical measures that can guarantee a flood-free Lagos.”

The commissioner said that the state government had embarked on continuous clearing, maintenance and dredging of canals across the state to pre-empt the incidences of flooding.

Adejare admonished Lagosians to bag their refuse properly to allow for easy collection and disposal to designated landfill sites by Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.

The commissioner also assured Lagosians that LAWMA would deploy men and equipment to ensure quick evacuation of waste generated during the exercise.

Decline of bees, butterfies threatens crop output – UN body

AS the general election of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN, holds this morning in Asaba, Delta State, expectations are high as pundits are busy, predicting the outcome of the election.

Although many have opined that the major battle for the post of the presidency would obviously be between Fred Amata and Lancelot Imasuen. Kingsley Omo-Efe who is also contesting for the coveted presidential seat may not be a push over after all.

The last few weeks have seen the aspirants being locked in aggressive campaigns, as they reeled out their manifestos to win the support of DGN members. Lancelot Imasuen who celebrated his 20 years in Nollywood last year believes that he has what it takes to become the next president of the Guild.

Popular director

“Judging from the past and present, I see myself as most capable and competent to steer the ship of the directors in Nigeria because film directing has been my life and God has been merciful to me,… You cannot give what you do not have,”the popular director declares.

If elected, the producer of the epic film, Ïnvasion 1897”said, part of his plans is to have three DGN lounges in addition to engaging government and private sector to invest in the industry. “It’s in my character to dream and desire great things, go for heights deemed impossible and climb to its zenith. I want to remake the individual Nigerian film Director for the 21st century challenges of film making, globalise and draw National and international attention to our DGN, engage government and private sector with interests in our craft”.

However, Fred Amata sees no other candidate than himself. Despite contesting for this position for more than three times, the Delta State-born thespian is not giving up the fight for the hot seat of DGN president. According to him, “I am one of the longest serving professional in the industry. I have a product that happened even before the new environment, Nollywood, was born. I have being a director since 1986. “With my threatening records, I feel there is the need for my colleagues on the other side to make me their consensus candidate.” He promised to get the guild a befitting secretariat, a functioning constitution and website in his first three months in office.

On his own, Kingsley Omoefe popularly called “King of soaps” describes himself as director of directors. He said, “Nobody among those contesting have what I have. It’s my prerogative to re-awaken the ailing directors’ guild. It’s been too long in coma. My brothers and sisters in the guild have to put in my hands the future of the DGN if they want that desired change for our dear body. We are intellectuals and know what we want. I am here to serve them.”

“The desire for change and repositioning the profession of movie directing and directors has inspired my resolve to become DGN President. My leadership will be hinged on good and quality leadership based on these four cardinal points; Commitment, Service, Loyalty and Respect for members”, says Mr Omo-Efe. With their intimidating credentials, the question now on everyone’s lips is, “Who emerges the new p

Populations of bees, butterflies and other species important for agricultural pollination are declining, posing potential risks to major world crops, a UN body on biodiversity said Friday.

“Many wild bees and butterflies have been declining in abundance, occurrence and diversity at local and regional scales in Northwest Europe and North America,” said an assessment by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

It said declines had also been detected elsewhere in the world and that possible causes include habitat loss, pesticides, pollution, invasive species, pathogens and climate change.

Bee-venom

The report by the IPBES, which was established under UN auspices in 2012 to assess the state of ecosystems and biodiversity, stopped short of declaring a full-scale threat to food supplies.

But it stressed the importance of protecting pollinators to ensure stable fruit and vegetable output, amid concern over the challenge of feeding the world’s growing population in coming decades.

It said animal pollination is directly responsible for between five and eight percent of global agricultural production by volume, amounting to between $235 billion and $577 billion worth of annual output.

In addition, more than three-quarters of the “leading types of global food crops” rely to some extent on animal pollination for yield and quality.

“Pollinator-dependent species encompass many fruit, vegetable, seed, nut and oil crops, which supply major proportions of micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals in the human diet,” the IPBES said.

Pollination is the transfer of pollen between the male and female parts of flowers to enable reproduction.

The assessment is the work of nearly 80 scientists from around the world and was released at an IPBES meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

It is the first report by the four-year-old group, which is considered the biodiversity equivalent of the UN-organised Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

– Upsetting the apple cart –

In Europe, nine percent of bee and butterfly species are threatened with extinction and populations are declining for 37 percent of bee species and 31 percent of butterfly species for which sufficient data is available, the IPBES said.

In some places in Europe more than 40 percent of bee species may be threatened, it added.

A “data gap” frustrates analysis of the situation in Latin America, Asia, and Africa, but the same drivers are suspected to be at work in those regions, it said.

Data is more solid for non-insect pollinators such as bats and birds, however, with the IPBES saying 16 percent of such species worldwide are threatened with extinction.

Some of the most important world food staples such as rice, wheat and other grains do not rely on animal pollination.

But vulnerable crops could include apples, mangoes, chocolate and many other commonly consumed foods, said Simon Potts, co-chair of the assessment.

“Pretty much nearly all your fruits and many of your vegetables are pollination-dependent,” said Potts, deputy director of the Centre for Agri-Environmental Research at Britain’s Reading University.

Possible policy options include better protection of natural environments and ecosystems, limiting the scope of intensive agriculture, and finding alternatives to pesticides, the IPBES said.

Greater attention to controlling pathogens among species and better regulation of managed populations of bees and other pollinators could also help, it added.

IPBES members stressed that the group does not make specific recommendations, but provides information for policy-makers.

The assessment said pollinator declines could lead to lower crop yields, raising prices for consumers and reducing agricultural profits.

Breaking News: Supreme Court okays Rev King to die by hanging

General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Reverend King

ABUJA – The Supreme Court has okayed the convicted General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Rev. King to die by hanging.

In a unanimous judgment Friday afternoon, a seven-man panel of Justices ‎of the apex court led by Justice Walter Onnoghen, upheld the death sentence that was earlier handed to Ezeugo by the Lagos State High Court.

Consequently, the court in its lead verdict that was delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, dismissed the appeal the convicted clergy lodged before it.

Justice Ngwuta who noted that “the ‎facts of the case could have been lifted from horror film”, resolved all the 12 issues Ezeugo raised in his appeal.”

“This appeal has no merit. The judgement of the court of appeal is hereby affirmed. The prison sentence that was earlier handed to the appellant is no longer relevant in view of the death sentence passed on him”, Justice Ngwuta held.

It will be recalled that Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging on January 11, 2007, for the alleged murder of his church member, Ann Uzoh. He was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.

The charge against him was at the instance of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

During the trial, the prosecution had argued that the convict poured petrol on the diseased, Uzor and five others. Uzoh died on August 2, 2006, exactly 11 days after the incident.

In her judgment, trial Justice Joseph Oyewole who is now a Justice of the Court of Appeal at Calabar, said there was sufficient evidence linking the accused person to the commission of the crime.

Consequently, Justice Oyewole convicted and sentenced Ezeugo to 20 years imprisonment for the attempted murder and death by hanging for the offence of murder.

Dissatisfied with the judgment, Ezeugo took the case before the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

The condemned clergy, in his notice of appeal dated January 16, 2007, prayed the appellate court to set aside the judgment.

Aside 16 grounds of appeal he raised through his lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, he was subsequently granted leave to argue additional 16 grounds based an amended notice of appeal he filed on June 15, 2008.

Ojo argued that his client did not commit the crime and was not at the scene of the incident.

He insisted that the deceased, Uzoh, had in two statements she made after the incident and before her death, stated that she got burnt in a generator accident and that the cleric was not responsible for her injuries.

Ojo said the Investigating Police Officer, IPO, had tendered statements which stated that Ezeugo was not responsible for the burns that led to Uzoh’s death.

He alleged that the trial Judge refused to admit in evidence, the statements he said exonerated Ezeugo of the crime.

The lawyer further contended had those “vital exhibits” been admitted rather than expunged by the trial judge, they would have operated to cast serious doubt on the case of the prosecution.

He maintained that Justice Oyewole’s refusal to admit the exhibits in evidence “occasioned a great miscarriage of justice” against his client.

Meanwhile, after due consideration of the case, a three-man panel of justices of the appellate court, in a lead judgment that was delivered by Justice Fatimo Akinbami, dismissed Ezeugo’s appeal and upheld the high court verdict.

The other members of the appellate court panel that equally concurred with the lower court’s verdict were Justices Amina Augie and Ibrahim Saulawa.

Determined to save his life, Rev Ezeugo lodged an appeal before the Supreme Court.

His appeal was challenged by the Lagos state government which through its Attorney General, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem and Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Idowu Alakija, urged the apex court to dismiss it and uphold the concurrent verdicts of the two lower courts.

GLO Drops Psquare As Brand Ambassadors

Reports making rounds on line this morning is that Nigeria’s biggest indigenous telecommunication company, Globacom, has refused to renew P-Square’s contract as ambassadors.

The decision by the Management of Glo not to renew the singing duo’s contract is said to be as a result of a recent fracas that ensued between the company’s representatives and Peter, during the grand finale of Dance with Peter talent hunt show.

Naij reports that a top manager in GLO, who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the decision was imposed due to the show of shame that ensued between the company’s representatives and Peter, one half of the P-Square twins during the grand finale of the Dance with Peter talent hunt show.

He also admitted that GLO had defaulted on some of its promises made as the sole sponsor of the show but expressed dissatisfaction on how Peter overreacted by insulting our hierarchy in the process.

When Mike Adenuga heard of the development, he felt embarrassed and gave the order that Psquare can no longer be his company’s ambassador.

As at the time of this report, no comment has been gotten from Psquare.
