Ronaldo Asks Madrid Fans To Support Bale And Not Jeer Him
Reigning World Footballer of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Real Madrid fans to get behind Gareth Bale, after the Welsh winger came under fire for shooting wide at goal instead of laying up his team-mate during the La Liga win over Espanyol on Saturday.
Bale was jeered by fans at the Santiago Bernebeu for choosing not to set up the Portuguese for a simple tap in and, instead throwing caution to the winds following a break-away move.
Ronaldo, despite having to show his angry self after his team-mate’s selfish decision, has now called on Real fans to “be nice” to the world’s most expensive player.
Speaking to reporters at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich, Ronaldo said: “Madrid fans are always the same: they are very intense, they show what they feel, they aren’t liars.
“But I think the things with Gaz are normal because they know that Gaz is a very important player for us, a key player.
“What happened on Saturday is in the past. Sometimes I make mistakes too, so it’s part of the business, part of football. I think the people will be nice with him and they should be nice with him.”
Bale was also criticised for not passing to Karim Benzema when clean through during Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Valencia.
