SENATOR DR IFEANYI OKOWA'S EMERGENCE AS THE DELTA STATE PDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE SHOULD BE SEEN AS VICTORY FOR ALL IKA PEOPLE
Editorial
IKA WEEKLY
History was made on Monday, December 8, 2014, as an illustrious son of Ika nation, the distinguished Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa emerged victorious in a free and fair Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election held at the Cenotaph, Asaba, the Delta State capital. Senator Okowa, popularly addressed as the Ekwueme of Delta politics scored 406 votes, the highest in the election. His closest rival and a two time commissioner of Finance in the state, Chief David Edevbie polled 289, while the immediate past speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Victor Ochei scored 185 votes to emerged third in the election. Other governorship aspirants outside Chief (Hon) Godwin Ndudi Elumelu scored lest than fifty votes each.
We are to recall that four illustrious Ika sons contested the Delta State governorship election. Their names are: Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Rt. Hon Prince Sam Obi, Sir Anthony Chuks Obuh and Dr. Festus Goziem Okubor. We are happy and thankful to God that despite the intrigues that characterized the election, particularly at the eleventh hour an Ika man (Okowa) still carried the day, great respect to our Delta North and South political leaders who within a short time were able to come together to join hands to work for the victory of Senator Okowa, having seen the good stuff, the chairman, Senate Committee on Health is made off. Okowa's victory at the poll is an indication that the Almighty God rewards hardwork and also listens very well to his children whenever they call upon Him. Truly, God has answered the prayers of Ika people by making our sons to be first, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and Delta State governor in waiting, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi, as we are one hundred percent sure by the special grace of God that Okowa is going to win landslide in the February, 2015 governorship election.
Now that we have one of our illustrious sons as the PDP governorship flag bearer in Delta State, it will be very good our Ika political leaders settle their political differences and join Senator Okowa to clinch final victory in February next year. Our courageous sons, Rt. Hon Sam Obi, Sir Anthony Obuh and Dr. Festus Goziem Okubor have great roles to play towards the emergence of their brother (Senator Ifeanyi Okowa) as governor of Delta State. They should see Okowa's victory as their own and for Ika nation in general. As brothers, we should join, our brethren from Delta North in particular, Central and South towards achieving total victory in 2015. Any support for Senator Okowa is for the entire Ika nation and people. It is therefore at this juncture that we once again appeal to our dear brother's, sisters, traditional and political leaders to unite as never before and work towards the achievement of the ultimate goal in 2015, which is winning the Delta State governorship election.
We also use this medium to advise the distinguished Senator to be magnanimous in victory by extending an olive branch to all the PDP governorship aspirants in the state. We know that as a listening and charismatic political leader, Senator Okowa will yield to this advise and carry everybody along. We wish the Senator well as we await February 16, 2015, the day he will clinch the final victory as the governor- elect in Delta State.
