PDP House of Assembly Primaries
THE results of the Delta State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary elections for the State House of Assembly held last Saturday across the state began to trickle in last night showing major wins for some, including the Speaker of the state legislature, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya.
Onwusanya, in the in-house poll meant to pick the party’s flag bearers to next year’s state legislature polls, beat his rivals by a wide margin by polling 61 of the 71 votes cast. His co-aspirants, Mr. Emeka Okoji, had six votes, two more than Bridget Anyafulu, who had four votes. The fourth person in the race, Ifeanyichukwu Gabriel Iyoh, declined to vie at the last minute.
Onwusanya represents Oshimili South constituency in the state legislature.
In Warri North, Mr. Michael Diden won, while in Ethiope West council area, Miss Erhiatake Ibori, daughter of Chief James Onanefe Ibori, the second Executive Governor of the State, was declared winner after earning 55 as against the single vote of her opponent, Stanley Oboh.
For the Warri South One state constituency,
Mr. G. Abigor, won after trouncing the incumbent representative of the constituency in the state legislature, Hon. Omawumi Udoh. Udoh’s loss was the first major such casualty among the high-heeled members of the legislature seeking a return for a fresh term.
In Warri South Constituency Two, Mr. Dennis Omovie, the substantive legislator for the constituency, was elected to bear the party’s flag to the 2015 election into the law-making house.
In Aniocha North State Constituency, Mr. Uzomah Idabor won the ticket, while Lady Angela Nwaka won in Aniocha South.
Hon Isaac Ulebor won in Ika South, while Tony Elekeokwuri won in Ika North East.
There was also a major win for the incumbent member of the House in Uvwie constituency, Mr. Efe Ofobruku, who was elected to vie on behalf of the party in the 2015 general election into the House.
In Oshimili North, there was a similar outcome as the incumbent, Hon. Pat Ajudua,a lawyer, beat Barrister Awele Chigbue by 34 to 13 votes to claim victory.
For the state legislature seat for Aniocha South council area, Angela Nwaka won by 36 votes as against 13 votes by her co-contestant, Barrister Chukwuma, who earned 13 votes. The incumbent member of the state legislature, Mrs. Amaechi Mrakpor, who was elected into the House on the ticket of the PDP is currently eyeing the seat for the Aniocha/ Oshimili federal constituency in the House of Representatives,
the lower chamber of the National Assembly (NASS) the primary election for which fall due in a matter of days.
In respect of the state legislature seat for Isoko North constituency, Mr Tim Owhefere was elected with 47 votes, as against his opponent, Mr Festus Omoyibo’s two votes, while the former civil Commissioner
for Special Infrastructure in the state, Barrister Orezi Esievo, was returned for Isoko South Constituency One.
In lieu of the Isoko South Constituency Two, the incumbent, Johnson Erijo, was returned without opposition. Prince Uzoma Idaboh was elected for the Aniocha North constituency with a total of 24 votes.In another development, the PDP primaries for the State House of Assembly held in Edo State yesterday as scheduled amidst peace and tranquility.
The exercise which began at about 10am in most local Government Areas visited by our Correspondent was seen to be conducted in an orderly manner.
