Delta 2015: Agbomah lauds Okowa’s emergence
A member of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mrs Ifeoma Agboma, has applauded the emergence of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the governorship candidate of the party in Delta state.
Okowa defeated all the other 15 aspirants in the race for PDP ticket in a primary governorship election that was widely acclaimed as free, fair and credible.
Fielding questions from newsmen at the PDP national secretariat, Mrs Agbomah declared that the conduct of the primary election that produced Senator Okowa “has again proven that PDP is democratic and the voice of the people counts.”
She called on all the other aspirants to rally round Senator Okowa to ensure the party emerges victorious in the February 28, 2015 gubernatorial election.
Mrs Agbomah described Okowa as a detribalised politician that commands followership across the three senatorial zones in Delta state.
“From the outcome of the primary, everyone can see that delegates from the three senatorial zones voted massively for Okowa and that is why there was no dispute whatsoever about the outcome of the primary election.
“Senator Okowa gave a good account of himself for several years when he was a member of the Delta state executive committee before he went to the senate where he proved his mettle as chairman of the senate committee on health.
“His is first among equals and his emergence as PDP candidate is a good omen for the party as he is a very sellable candidate.”
She commended the leader of PDP in Delta state, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his statesmanship in handling the primary election and ensuring that PDP remains intact after the primary.
“Delta PDP is going into the battle as a very united family and all those who were praying for post-primary crisis are disappointed because they know that, with this development, no opposition party can upstage PDP in 2015.
“Delta is a stronghold of the PDP; it has been so since 1999 and this trend will continue beyond 2015.”
Mrs Agbomah also commended the national leadership of the PDP for the successful conduct of the national convention where the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan was ratified as the presidential candidate of the party.
