Herrera, Januzaj Back in Man Utd Training

Manchester United have been boosted by the return of midfielder Ander Herrera and forward Adnan Januzaj.

Louis van Gaal’s men prepare for their first match of 2015 away to Stokes on January 1. It was a welcomed improvement at the pre-game media briefing on Tuesday, with the 63-year-old revealing Herrera and Januzaj have resumed training after recovery from injury and illness respectively.

“Herrera has trained today for the first time with us and Januzaj has also trained two training sessions with us,” said van Gaa.

“They don’t have match rhythm [yet]. Januzaj was ill and you have to recover from your illness, not from your tiredness. Maybe it’s worse to recover from illness.”

Asked if he would have more players available for the Stoke game than he had for the game at White Hart Lane on Sunday, Van Gaal replied, “No”.

Luke Shaw made his first-team appearance since the victory at Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur. Rafael da Silva and Chris Smalling were also named in the squad for the goalless draw after injuries.

He added: “You have seen that Smalling, Shaw and Rafael Da Silva are coming back.

“These are the first signs that we already predicted two weeks ago, that the players shall come back but they are not back with 100 per cent match rhythm, and now we have to play.

“It’s a problem for me to come through this two weeks around Christmas and New Year, all these matches. That is difficult now.”

Why We Have Not Reclaimed All Towns Captured By Boko Haram – Army

The Nigerian Army has been criticized in several quarters for allegedly being lackadaisical in its fight against insurgency in Nigeria’s north east. The army however said on Wednesday that the need to reduce collateral damage had delayed the recapture of some towns seized by Boko Haram.

Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye, the Director, Army Public Relations gave the explanation while responding to questions from journalists.

“We are not interested in collateral damage,” he said.

“The Nigeria Army is very careful about collateral damage, to that extent our operations are carefully planned to make sure that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.

“If certain areas have not been recaptured it is because the Nigerian army is giving such areas very careful plans, the plans are ongoing.

“At the right time you will see the outcome; we will not tell you, of course, before hand, of what we intend to do; but you will see the outcome,” Laleye said.

He however said Nigerians will be pleased at the end of the operations going on to dislodge the terrorists, such that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to restate its determination to bring this counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations to a speedy and decisive end.

“Equally, the Nigerian Army seizes this opportunity to reassure Nigerians of its preparedness to support relevant agencies in the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections,’’ he said.

Recent Interview: Anyone Who Comes Between a Married Couple Should Be Jailed - Actress Omotola

Award winning actress, Omotola Jalde Ekeinde, in an interview with Encomium magazine, said that anyone who comes between a married couple deserve to be jailed because that person is robbing the couple of their joy.
"I think it should be a crime for anyone to come in between a couple. I feel anybody that comes between a married couple be a man or woman should go to jail. Such a person is robbing the family of their joy. To me, it is a crime that is worse than stealing another person's property" she said. Continue
Speaking about what has kept her marriage going for 8 years, Omotola said

"I would say first it is the fear of God. Then the fact that the reason we do all we do or the person we are all answerable to is God. He is the one guiding us. I would not lie to you that there was no time we almost gave up on both sides but at the end of the day you know you are answerable to God for whatever you do. There fore take your worry to him. And the reason you don't do anything stupid is because this person is not you are answerable to ultimately but God. So when God knows you depend on him that much, i think alone that helps you. Second is patience. You have to be very patient in every relationship, not just marriage. I feel very sad that a lot of people put so much pressure these days on marriages succeeding or not as if it is an alien relationship. The truth of the matter is that people fight their fathers, you fight your best friends. So why is it that you feel that you and your spouse can't fight or quarrel?"
Speaking about her husband, Omotola said he's been of great support to her
"He has been supportive. He has been an angel. He is my rock of Gibraltar. I would say my husband is my fan so also my critic. Most important he has been my pillar of support. If you are doing this job, you feel like you always want to fear what somebody would feel about you. When I am talking of somebody, I mean your parent or husband, somebody that means something to you, that limits you as a creative mind. God is my witness, my husband has never for once felt anything negative about me being an actress. In 2016, we are going to celebrate 20 years of marriage. I can't remember anytime I wanted to do anything and he kicked against it violently. I have had to travel out of the country sometimes, it may be the same day he would know. You are also aware of the sensitivity of our job, we are very disorganized often times. You know how it feels for you to tell your husband that one thing you have been pursuing for the past three months, all of a sudden, you just got a call that they have bought flight ticket for you and you are going for maybe one week. So naturally that's just something you would say no, you can't. But I would go and tell him and he would be like wow! He would even encourage me to go. He is very understanding and very supportive" she said
Omotola says featuring in the movie, The Prostitute and the controversies that surrounded the movie was the only time she felt her profession threaten her marriage.
"The only time I would say I worried was when the movie, The Prostitute came out and that was the first major shaking I had. It was like a kind controversy. From the movie poster to the sex scenes, whatever in that movie that was shot after I left there was shot as if I was the one who did it. And you know Nigeria was not ready for that so there was a lot of controversy around that. So that was the only time I really worried about my marriage and to be frank and candid, until my husband told me he wasn't bothered, then I had peace".

Police Shut Down Pastor Oyakhilome’s TV

The Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) officials have closed down Infinity Television belonged to preacher, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for owing the state government several millions.

The news emerges after the Tuesday’s protest by workers of the TV station over non payment of 10 months salaries and non-remittance of their Pay As You Earn, PAYE, tax to the suitable institutions.

While the company staff were protesting non-payment of salaries on Tuesday, executives of the LIRS stormed the grounds of the TV station, closed it down and put a notice on the entrance after locking it with padlock.

Some of the personnel who spoke with journalists but asked not to be named said they were ready to protest to Christ Embassy Church on Oregun Road at the Cross Over Night on 31 December, 2014 to ask for the payment of their salaries since the management of the company is planning to lay them off without paying the entitlements.

“Prior to this time, the staff had been receiving half salaries (for over a year) and by June 2014 salaries have not been paid to date. To worsen the case, the staff were barred from entering the office premises by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Henry Kifordu.

“All efforts by the staff to meet with the management proved abortive. Staff taxes and pensions have been deducted for years and were never remitted to appropriate authorities. Infinity TV was finally locked up for tax evasion on 23 December, 2014,” the staff said.

The angry workers said they were left with no other choice than to take to the streets to struggle for their rights and have decided to storm Christ Embassy’s 31 December night global service to make their injustice known to Oyakhilome, whom, they considered, may not be aware of the happenings in the company.

Ailing Infinity TV is a Direct To Home, DTH cable TV owned by Pastor Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy and was incorporated in 2009.

Jonathan To Inaugurate 40MW Kashimbila Dam February – Minister

MINISTER OF WATER RESOURCES, MRS. SARAH OCHEKPE, MINISTER OF POWER, PROF. CHINEDU NEBO AND MINISTER OF TOURISM, EDEM DUKE DURING AN INSPECTION TOUR OF THE KASHIMBILA MULTIPURPOSE DAM

The Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe, has disclosed that the 40 megawatts Kashimbila multipurpose dam will be inaugurated February next year by President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to her, the Federal Government would maximise opportunities such as potable water supply,  agriculture, power, tourism, aviation, transport as well as trade and investment in the Kashimbila dam for the benefit of the host communities and the country in general.

The minister stated this when she and her counterparts in the ministries of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo; Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Mr. Edem Duke; and her junior minister, Mr. Muhammed Wakil; inspected the dam in Taraba State.

A statement issued by the ministry on Tuesday, said the dam was a buffer designed to accommodate the poisonous gas and water that may come to Nigeria in case of breakdown of Lake Nyos in Cameroon.

She noted that presently, the dam had generated 40MW of hydro power, 2,000 hectares of land for irrigation, tourism potentials, aviation and transport opportunities, and would provide 60,000 cubic meters of water daily for 400,000 people.

“We are here at Kashimbila with three of my colleagues and we are happy with the level of work we see. As of 2010 the level of completion of this project was just 10 per cent but now you can see that the project is executed to its final stage.

“The President has been driving this project and we are happy that today the project is 95 per cent completed. We have already set in motion the process that will lead to the commissioning of the project in early February 2015.

“We want to maximise every opportunity that is available here. Next time we will come with our colleague from agriculture because of the irrigation component. Staple processing zone will be set up around this neighbourhood and this will not only open up the rural areas but will provide opportunities for further improvement in agriculture”, Mrs. Ochekpe was quoted as saying.

Speaking on the 40MW hydro power from the dam, Prof. Nebo said the Federal Government had approved the contract for the erection of transmission lines that would evacuate the generated electricity.

“The transmission infrastructure that will be put in place here will strengthen the entire Taraba, Benue and Plateau states so that we can have more reliable and stable electricity in these parts of the country”, he said.

In his address, Duke said his team had already developed a master plan to integrate tourism into the project, adding that the facilities on ground in the dam were enough to make the site a tourist destination.

Okowa felicitates with Deltans on Christmas, urges them to remain peaceful and united

By Jonathan Onwuka

As Christians across the World mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on Deltans, particularly Christians, to use the occasion to rededicate themselves to the teachings of Christ, which focus on oneness, unity and love for one another.

Senator Okowa, who is the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship candidate for Delta State, noted that, "it is only when we continue to manifest the virtues of unfeign humility, genuine love and sacrifice that we can truly lay claim to being true followers of Jesus Christ, whose teachings centre on love for one another."

He advised Christians against seeing Christmas celebration as mere ritual, but to see the occasion as time for deep sober reflection that should be used to reappraise their relationship with the Almighty God and their fellow human beings.

Senator Okowa, whose message was contained in a statement by his media aide, Jonathan Onwuka, while felicitating with Deltans, called on them to remain peaceful and committed to the development of the state, urging them to, " use the occasion to reflect deeply on those things that unite us and work toward strengthening them."
He also urged them to remain focus in the pursuit of a better and prosperous Delta State, where all citizens are partakers of the benefit of good governance.

Senator Okowa who reaffirmed his commitment to uplift the lives of the people, said the PDP will continue to develop Delta State for the benefit of mankind in line with the achievements recorded by previous administrations.

He enjoin Deltans to pray for a peaceful elections in 2015, saying 2015 will mark the beginning of greater things for the state and its people.

Group urges Clark, Tompolo, Manager to pick consensus running mate for Okowa

WARRI—A group, Delta Ijaw Political Forum, DIPF, in Delta State, yesterday, urged the Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, Senator James Manager and former militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, to harmonise their differences on the choice of running mate to People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

“We want the Ijaw leaders to synchronize their differences and jointly present a credible and generally acceptable Ijaw person as Okowa’s running mate to avoid dancing naked in the public,” the group’s Chairman, Mr Austin Ozobo, said yesterday, in Warri.

Vanguard has learned that former chairman, Committee of Petroleum Resources Upstream, House of Representatives, Tam Brisibe, was also jostling for the deputy governorship position.

Ozobo, who urged the three leaders to harmonize their position, enjoined Senator Manager and Tompolo to drop their separate aspirations and support Dr. Bruce Angozi, believed to be Chief Clark’s candidate.

Whereas Senator Manager was said to be pushing J.T. Government, Tompolo was reportedly behind the emergence of Mr Kingsley Otuaro, a DESOPADEC commissioner, as Okowa’s running mate.

Why They Are After Me – Tompolo

Ex-militant and former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has said that the controversy over the purchase of six gunboats, allegedly by his company, was because politicians were out to tarnish his hard-earned image ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP Sunday yesterday, the ex-militant said he is not a politician but a concerned Nigerian and a businessman that some, masterminded by some Niger Delta ethnic chauvinists, are trying to weigh down and paint as someone with the desire to wage war against the Nigerian state through arms buildup in the Niger Delta as 2015 approaches.

The Niger Delta warlord, while further reacting to media reports that he had acquired gunboats from Norwegian government with the assistance of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) ostensibly for the policing of the nation’s waterways, said that the boats are not even gunboats and have been with NIMASA for over two years.

“It is pertinent for the ignorance of those behind this blackmail to be exposed. The truth is that these boats in question had been in the care of NIMASA for two years now, and for the avoidance of doubt, the boats are not warships or gunboats as being erroneously spread by mischief makers. The boats, as acquired, are neither equipped with war arsenals nor ammunition carrier. They are simply boats equipped with modern surveillance devices to track oil thieves and in the process increase the nation’s revenue base through NIMASA,” he said.

Speaking further, Tompolo said Niger Delta ethnic chauvinists are also trying to smear his character, adding that, “I am not surprised that this blackmail is coming at this critical time that Nigeria is facing serious security challenges, even as the most decisive moment for the nation which is the 2015 election gets closer.

“For one, the initial reaction was to just ignore this cheap blackmail and forge ahead with my personal commitment, but the propensity with which these lies are daily being peddled requires a bit of clarification to the Nigerian public.”

On the issue of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Ogidigben, which involved the $16 billion Delta Gas City project that has pitted the Itsekiris against their Ijaw brothers in Delta State, the former warlord said dragging his name into it is a political ploy to make him an enemy of well-meaning Nigerians and further resurrect old wounds.

He added that he does not subscribe to cheap blackmail, “because my contributions to the administration led by President Goodluck Jonathan will continue to be meaningful, and I am not deterred by cheap blackmail.”

China Condemns Cyberattacks, Says No Proof North Korea Hacked Sony

China on Monday said it opposed all forms of cyberattacks but there was no proof that North Korea was responsible for hacking Sony Pictures, as the United States has alleged. Reuters report:

North Korea has denied it was to blame and has vowed to hit back against any U.S. retaliation, threatening the White House and the Pentagon. The hackers said they were incensed by a Sony comedy about a fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which the studio has pulled.
China made no reference to calls by the United States for joint action with it and other countries to counter any similar cyberattacks. “Before making any conclusions there has to be a full (accounting of) the facts and foundation,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said. “China will handle it in accordance with relevant international and Chinese laws according to the facts.”
She said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi “reaffirmed China’s relevant position, emphasizing China opposes all forms of cyberattacks and cyber terrorism” in a conversation with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday.
China is North Korea’s only major ally, and would be central to any U.S. efforts to crack down on the isolated state. But the United States has also accused China of cyber spying in the past and a U.S. official has said the attack on Sony could have used Chinese servers to mask its origin.

Former Kaduna PDP Senator, Zagi Defects To APC

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday announced that Senator Caleb Zagi, who represented Southern Kaduna Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2011 on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has formally defected to the party.

Zagi’s latest defection would make it the second time he has left the PDP for another political party.

The publicity secretary of APC in the state, Dr. Bege Katuka, who made the announcement in a chat with journalists, also said that the leadership of his party had accepted Senator Zagi into its fold.

Katuka said “We have formally received Senator Zagi back to our party and it is a good development, we are pleased with his return back to where things are working.

“Zagi explained that it was a second chance he gave the PDP, but on getting back to the party, the internal democracy mechanism he thought would be addressed was a mirage. The imposition of candidates and outright bending of party rules is still the order of the day.

“There is nothing empirical that shows it is development and welfare of Nigerians that is their focus; instead they just want to acquire power for selfish interests and for all these reasons, we are in the same direction and page”.

Katuka further disclosed that the APC would soon receive prominent members of the ruling party into its fold.

“I can tell you that very soon, other prominent members of the ruling party will join us, it is matter of time and you will see it soon. It is a testimony that we are unstoppable in this state”, he added.
