Okorocha Weeps At APC Awka Rally, Laments Ojukwu’s Death
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, wept openly on Friday during a rally in Awka where the All Progressives Congress presented Senator Chris Ngige as the consensus candidate of the party for the November 16 2013 governorship election in Anambra State.
Okorocha, who could not hold back tears, said he was crying over the death of the late Igbo leader, Chief Emeka Ojukwu, whose loss had left the Igbo without a direction.
“Oh, I wish our leader, the Ikemba Ndigbo, were still alive to see the formation of APC. He should have asked Ndigbo to embrace it in their interest,” Okorocha said.
He used the occasion to explain that APC is not a sectional party and called on the people of the state to come out en masse to vote for Ngige in the state’s governorship election.
In his speech, Ngige called on APC to be united in the state to achieve victory in the election. He pledged free education for the people of the state in line with his party’s ideology, just as he promised a better welfare scheme in the state if voted into power.
The rally was attended by prominent members of the former Ngige campaign group including Chief Ejim Igbokwe, the Agbalanze of Umuchu.
