APC Holds Emergency NWC Meeting On Osinbajo-El Rufai Rift, Others
The National Chairman of the All progressives Congress (APC) John Odigie-Oyegun has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee of the party to hold on Monday, September 28, 2015.
According to Vanguard, the meeting is aimed at tackling the numerous problems bedeviling the ruling party, chief of which is the submission of the Ministerial list by President Muhammadu Buhari, which is expected to be submitted to the Senate on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 or on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
According to an unnamed top member of the NWC, the agenda for the meeting also includes the rift between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is considered as the unofficial Vice President of the country.
It would be recalled that The Trent had exclusively reported a confrontation between Osinbajo and El Rufai during a meeting presided over by President Buhari, which led to the veepee walking out of the meeting.
Following the report, the Presidency responded with a threatening publication on the official website of the government, which was later taken down following a backlash from Nigerians. The Editorial Board of The Trent responded with this statement standing by our story.
According to the NWC member, the leadership of APC was not happy with this incident and was determined to remove the impression of the Vice president as being a puppet.
Also up for discussion is the consultation of officials of the party in the appointment of the members of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, and the power tussle between the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, which is said to have stalled the inauguration of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, as well as holding of the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting.
Asides the aforementioned the party is looking to settle the rift between Tinubu and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, especially as regards his current trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The NWC member said: “Why must there be preferential treatment and separate rules? Whereas, Tinubu was acquitted for non- compliance with section 3 (D), the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, is insisting on Dr. Abubakar Saraki standing trial for an issue that the former Lagos State governor was acquitted and the suit struck out.”
Also on the agenda for the meeting is the media war between Edo State Governor and the former governor of Bayelsa state, Timi Sylva, who reportedly won the state’s governorship primary election amidst violence.
Following the primaries, Oshiomile, who is the Chairman of the election committee said Sylva’s election was invalid, describing it as a joke.
In his reply, Sylva said described Oshiomole as a liar and mischief maker.
