‘A Captain Has To Lead By Example’ – Oliseh Strips Enyeama Of Super Eagles

After the major falling out between coach Sunday Oliseh and captain Vincent Enyeama, there were varying reports as to why the two men were at each others throats.

However the real reason seems to have been unearthed. Sources in the camp claim Enyeama was furious with the gaffer after he was told he would be dropped as Eagles captain with Ahmed Musa taking his place.

A source at the camp told africanfootball.com: “It was a nasty and ugly scene as Enyeama and Oliseh insulted the life out of each other that at a time it looked like security would have to be called up.”

Senior players led by Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi were the ones who convinced Enyeama to stay in team’s camp in Belgium thereafter.

In a similar report, the Vanguard informs that Enyeama told Oliseh to consider other senior members of the squad like Mikel Obi for the captaincy and was rejected which led to the outburst at the coach.

According to Premium Times, Oliseh has confirmed in a radio interview with Brilla FM that Musa will be made with the team captain and he is willing to work with Enyeama.

He said: “There is no captaincy tussles …For Nigeria going forward, I need a player who is regular in the team and it is Ahmed Musa, who did a great job in Tanzania under very difficult circumstances.
“He (Musa) is the captain of the team, not somebody who is thinking of retirement. A captain has to lead by example. We are not here to build stars.
“If you don’t conform to what I am trying to do, we will be friends, but we will be friends from afar. There has been a new government and the President has picked new ministers. And that is what I have also done.”

The Eagles tackle Congo on October 8th while Cameroon will be tackled on October 11th. The matches will be played in Belgium where the team is camping.

The NFF has however announced a change in the venue and kick-off time for the Super Eagles clash against Congo.
