Police Arraign 20 Suspects In Court Over Oshodi Mayhem



The Lagos State Police Command has dragged five teenagers and 15 men before an Oshodi magistrate’s court in the state for allegedly causing riot at Oshodi.

The teenagers arraigned before the court are Alagbe Kehinde, 18; Ayeni Oluwasegun, 19; Kasali Tunde, 19; Babatunde Sodiq, 19; Olawale Soliu, 19, Abiodun Adeleke, 31; Segun Owoseni, 24; and Ojo Moruf, 23. Others are Oguntade Sunday, 23; Segun Adeniyi, 20; Dare Abiodun, 23; Femi Bode, 23; Segun Adewale, 23; Hamzat Ibrahim, 20; Samson Oluwatade, 27; Anifowose John, 27; Wasiu Adebayo, 20; Yusuf Salami, 23; Ibrahim Saka, 20; and Adejoku Rasheed, 21.

The accused persons were arraigned on a seven-count charge of conspiracy, riot, unlawful possession of cutlass, stealing and destroying property.

According to the charges filed before the court, the accused persons stole 80 different types of phones belonging to one Adekunle Adebayo. They were also said to have been found to be unlawfully in possession of a cutlass, and willfully damaged a vehicle with number plate XA 733 SRE by breaking all the glasses.

“That you and others, now at large, on February 19, at about 2pm at Oshodi in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did set fire and burnt Mazda bus with number plate MUS 07 XC, valued N2 million, property of one Akinwale Aluko,” One of the counts read.

Police prosecutor, Kehinde Olatunde, said the offence was punishable under Section 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

When the offences were read to the accused persons before Magistrate Akeem Fashola, they pleaded not guilty. The magistrate granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,00, with two sureties who would have paid tax for a period of three years, and adjourned the case to March 24.
