Soldiers kill Two B’Haram Commanders, Arrest Six – Military

The Military Special Operation Unit in Mubi, Adamawa State, on Tuesday said it killed two Boko Haram commanders in a gun battle.

The unit Commanding Officer, Operation, Lt. Col. Beyidi Martins, stated this in Mubi.
Martins said the unit had made a successful progress in containing the activities of the sect and other miscreants in the state.

He said, “Two notorious Boko Haram field commanders, Abubakar Ya’u and Muhammed Bama, declared wanted, had been killed by the special operation unit, Mubi.”

The collective effort of security operatives and the citizens, he added, led to the killing of the commanders.

Martins said, “On July 30, the unit received a call from some good citizens that there was an attack going on at a Mubi Bureau de Change, when some armed miscreants invaded the area.

“On arrival, the Special Operation Unit personnel cordoned the area. Sighting the army, the terrorists opened fire on them.

“During the exchange, six suspects were arrested while four escaped with injuries, and later, their corpses were found.’’

He added that security operatives during the operations, recovered four Russian-made AK47, 500 live ammunition, N3m and 5.4m CFA from the terrorists.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government on Tuesday said the activities of Boko Haram had destroyed the country’s reputation.

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, stated this while briefing the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee on the activities of his ministry.
He said, “Boko Haram has destroyed the reputation of Nigeria. A report of a bomb explosion makes more news globally than inauguration of projects. We have been doing well in an atmosphere of negative reports. This government is the most documented in the Nigeria history.”

He also said it was wrong to blame President Goodluck Jonathan for the security problems in the country.

The President, he said, had done well since he assumed office.
Maku said, “You cannot blame the President for the violence in the country. You can look at the direction it is coming from.

“Had it been there was no violence, you can imagine what he has achieved in just two years. Let us keep propaganda aside; keep opposition aside and look at the Gross Domestic Product then you will know that the President has achieved a lot.”
