Recommence Work At Mairtime University, Okerenkoko

THE Secretary, Okerenkoko Federated Communities of Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Ernest Bebenimibo has called on the Federal Government to re-commence  work at the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko.

Bebenimibo made the plea yesterday in Warri, Delta State, saying that the people’s future might be jeoardised if Federal Government decides not to continue with the project.

He reasoned that stoppage of ongoing work at the University permanent site is an indication of stopping the project.

He said that their fears stemmed from the directive by the Minister of Transport; Rotimi Amaechi‎ that ongoing work should be stopped due to some ongoing probes.

According to him, “The University is the answer to our quick development; it is the only visible gain of our Niger Del‎ta struggle.

“To put an end to it will be damaging and inimical ‎to development. So we are pleading that the federal government should reverse its decision so that the project can go on,” he said.

“It will bring manifest injustice to our people if this project is truncated. We are main contributor to the national wealth; the school is the only thing we have to show for the exploitation of our God given resources.

“We also call on the federal government to hasten the development of our area by giving us a road which will enable us linked up to the urban cities.”

Bebenimibo warned that the multiplier effects of abandoning the University, thereby shortchanging his people will be grave and it could lead to future agitations.
