Bayelsa Poll: Election Results Already Written – PDP Raises Alarm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in conjunction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), police and military have already written the result of the governorship election in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state.

According to the PDP, the election which is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, may be a formality.

The Punch reports that Prince Uche Secondus, the acting national chairman of PDP, raised the alarm in a statement made on Friday, January 8, in Abuja.

The chairman revealed that his party had gathered from intelligence report that the APC government had already written the results of the upcoming election.

“Southern Ijaw is the home local government of former governor of the state, the late Chief DSP Alamiseighga and a known Ijaw leader.

“The state is politically divided into Nembe, Ogbia and Southern Ijaw, that is the home LGA of ijaws where governor Dickson hails from.

“This is the strongest home base of the PDP. PDP has been winning elections in this core Ijaw LGA because it is the ancestral home of all Ijaws where the former governor and Ijaw leader DSP Alamiseigha and Dickson hail from.

“Intelligence report at our disposal shows that the election is just a mere formality as results have been written with INEC standing as the main culprit,” he said.

Secondus also alleged that some officials of the federal government and some ministers directed the INEC to write the results in favour of the APC.

According to the PDP chairman, the winning the governorship election in Bayelsa state is a part of APC’s plot of having a foothold in the South-South.

“All ministers and government officials from the zone have been directed to ensure that Bayelsa is delivered to the APC at all cost,” he added.

Secondus called on the international community to be aware of the sinister plot and warned that this action might hurt the nascent democracy in Nigeria.

The chairman further stressed if anything happens to democracy in the country, all Nigerians and the global community should hold the APC responsible for it.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa state chapter of the APC has warned Governor Seriake Dickson against putting his ambition ahead of the interest of the state.

According to Tiwe Oruminighe, the party’s state chairman, Dickson has shown desperation, restlessness and excessive ambition in his quest to get a second term, without considering the interests of the people.
