Okowa sends HIV/AIDS control agency bill to State Assembly

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa on Wednesday sent a bill to establish the Delta State Agency for the Control of HIV and AIDS to the state House of Assembly for scrutiny. The bill, which was presented through a letter, was read during plenary in Asaba by the Speaker, Mr Monday Igbuya.

The bill, according to Okowa, will help to reduce the devastating effect of HIV and AIDs prevalence in the state. After presenting the bill, the Majority Leader, Mr Tim Owhefere, moved a motion for its acceptance which was seconded by Mr Anthony Elekeokuru (PDP-Ika North East).

Meanwhile, the speaker on Wednesday also described his victory at Court of Appeal sitting in Benin as “triumph for the common man and for democracy’’. “It is also significant to the development of the state, especially Sapele constituency where he represents.

“This victory will motivate me to work harder to attract dividends of democracy to my people,’’ he said. He extended hands of fellowship to his opponent and assured that he would continue to serve with the fear of God. Igbuya commended the judiciary for dismissing Mr felix Amira’s case who was challenging his victory at the election tribunal.

“My confidence in the nation’s judiciary is renewed, the judgment went in my favour despite speculations that the outcome will go in favour of my opponent,’’ he said. Igbuya was the winner of the April 11 election for Sapele constituency.
