John Shittu Explains Why Mikel Obi Is Still At Chelsea

John Shittu who is the representative of the Chelsea player Obi Mikel, has said that he would have left Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the season but the Blues were reluctant to sell him.

After Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas joined the Blues in 2014 Mikel was left on the bench. Furthermore, he was criticized by local media.

Everyone has started to talk about Mikel’s decision to quit. The player had reportedly agreed personal terms with the Arabian club Al Ain, but the deal fell through after the UAE side could not meet Chelsea’s valuation of the 28-year-old.

Shittu explains: “He would have left (Chelsea) at the beginning of the season but the club refused to sell him because they felt he was still important to the team. And that was how we left it. So many clubs came in but they didn’t want to sell. Now we are going to look at the situation; how it plays out and from there we can move on.”

Speaking about a possible move from Chelsea in January, the representative said: “Well, let’s see how it plays out.”

Turkish Fenerbahce are also interested in Mikel.

However, Fenerbahce’s chairman Aziz Yildirim said: “Chelsea want €15m and Mikel asked for €5m a season, over four years. We are talking €35m. This definitely is not something we can pursue”.

Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006. He has made 347 appearances and scored 5 goals as a Chelsea player.
