A corps member, Miss Omolola Abogunrin, has been reportedly murdered by unknown criminals, barley two weeks to her wedding.
Omolola’s wedding was slated for the Saturday, October 17.
Adekunle Ajisebutu, a police spokesperson in Oyo state, confirmed the incident. Adekunle said Omolola’s corpse has since been taken to the morgue of the Oyo state hospital, Adeoyo.
He explained that the deceased’s fiance, Olusola Babalola, was arrested and detained as a part of police investigation.
The police spokesperson noted that the case was transferred to the criminal investigations department of the command. He added that the command would ensure the killers are made to face the law.
Omolola was reportedly murdered on Sunday, October 4, at an agriculture research institute located at Apata area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Investigation into her death reveals that she was raped and strangled by hoodlums, on her return from church. Witnesses say they saw semen in her private part and nail wounds around her neck.
A family member, who preferred to speak anonymously, said: “Omolola was looking forward to her wedding which was scheduled for October 17, the day she would have been 29 years. She and her fiance to be held their family introduction four months ago to pave the way for proper marriage ceremony, scheduled to take place at a Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan.”
As at the time of her death, the late Omolola was rounding-up her one year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state. She graduated from the Ibadan Federal Polytechnic.
