JUST IN: Shettima Nominates New Deputy Governor To Succeed Late Mustapha

Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima has disclosed the name of the official nominated as the deputy governor of the state.

Shettima broke the news on Monday, October 5, through his spokesman Mallam Isa Gusau. The move follows the death of Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha on August 15.

The new likely deputy governor is the immediate past commissioner of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youths Empowerment, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa.
In a letter directed to the Assembly for Durkwa’s candidacy confirmation, Shettima says:

“I wish to reassure the Honourable House of the continuous cooperation of the Executive arm and solicit for confirmation of the nominee, please. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.”

The governor further noted he was looking forward to “the Assembly’s accelerated consideration and kind approval”.

Mustapha passed away in his sleep while on a visit to Yola for the convocation ceremony of Modibbo Adama University of Science and Technology.
Shettima personally visited the family of the deceased and expressed his condolences to his close relatives.
