GOV OKOWA PRESENTS N35.2M CHEQUE, HILUX VAN TO CAMP 74 FISH FARMERS
Delta State Government has presented a Toyota Hilux Van and cheques of 150,000 naira each to the 235 fish farmers in Camp 74 fish farm settlement to help alleviate the losses incurred during the current flooding in the state.
The State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who presented the vehicle and cheques to the farmers (7-10-15) in Asaba explained that the gesture was in fulfilment of his promise to the farmers when he visited the camp few days after the flooding occurred to ascertain the extent of damage in the farm.
The governor stated that government was encouraged by the way the youths formed themselves into an Association to engage themselves in a meaningful source of livelihood, stressing that " You are already a source of inspiration to other youths and government is impressed in the way you engaged yourselves without any support from government to have a meaningful sources of livelihood."
"The N150,000 we are giving you today is not a loan but a grant, you are not expected to pay back, it is to enable you buy feeds for your fingerlings until you get your stock back. l have directed the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources to link you up with the state Micro credit and Small Scale Scheme where you can easily access loan to develop your business", Governor Okowa said.
"l encourage you to attract other youths to this place to see what you are doing, this will motivate them to be involved, by this, more youths of the state will be engaged, l believe in peer influence and know that you farmers can do more for other youths,” he stated, adding that "The Hilux Van will help you to transport your fishes to the market and bring fish feeds to the farm."
In a brief Remark, the Chairman of Camp 74 Fish Farmers Association, Mr. Upbright Nwenneka commended Governor Okowa for his prompt response to their plight and in fulfilling his promises to them, assuring him of their support for his administration's youths empowerment programmes.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of the Hilux Van and cheques to the farmers.
