10 Things You Should Know About Nigerian Rapper Phyno

Nigerian rapper Phyno has had a great year so far, and what better time to celebrate him than on his birthday?

The Enugu native turned 29 today, October 9. As fans and friends celebrate him on social here are 10 things you should remember about the Ghost Mode rapper.

1. Phyno whose real name is Chibuzo Nelson started rapping at a young age and coined his moniker from the phrase ‘phenomenal’.

2. His latest moniker is eze nnunu, an Igbo phrase which means king of birds. As a young lad, Chibuzo dreamt of flying. He initially wanted to become a pilot, his family however wanted him to become a medical practitioner.

3. He ended up studying Public Administration at the Institute of Management And Technology in Enugu.

4. The rapper began recording his debut project No Guts No Glory in 2012 and dropped Ghost Mode off it in September, 2012.

5. No Guts No Glory was released to critical acclaim and featured heavyweights such as Olamide, PSquare, Omawumi, MI Abaga, Flavour, Ice Prince and Timaya.

6. Following the success of Ghost Mode, Phyno and Olamide collaborated on an album titled 2 Kings, which dropped in April, 2015.

7. Guinness helped further establish the rappers’ partnership by making them its brand ambassadors.

8. Phyno is currently an Airtel ambassador alongside Tuface Idibia, Patoranking, comedian Akpororo and radio host IK Osakioduwa.

 9. Phyno has vehemently denied reports that he got a lady pregnant outside wedlock.

10. Though not the proponent of Igbo rap in Nigeria, Phyno is the most renowned and successful rapper in that faction of Nigerian music.
