DELTA State Government has approved the establishment of five new secondary schools in the state, the Executive Chairman of the state Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), Sir Patrick Akporuno has said.
Akporuno, who disclosed this at Akiewhe Community Town Hall in Isoko North Local Government Area recently, said that the schools were approved by the state government towards the end of last year
He gave the names of the five schools to include Alihagu Secondary School, Alihagu in Ika South, Nifor-Island Secondary School, Nifor-Island in Warri South West, Obodo Secondary School, Obodo in Warri South, Ujovwre Secondary School, Ujovwre in Ughelli North and Akiewhe Grammar School, Akiewhe in Isoko North.
Speaking on Akiewhe Grammar School, Akiewhe, the PPEB boss noted that the school was approved for Akiewhe-Owhe community in order to alleviate the suffering of students in the area who, he said, used to trek long distances to either Oleh or Otor-Owhe every morning to school.
According to him, the state government felt and realized the suffering of school children from the community and its surrounding villages like Edhomoko and Canan among others, a development that made the state government to approve the establishment of the school in the area.
While introducing the principal of the school, Mr. Augustine Emeni who happens to be one of the 31 newly inaugurated principals in the state, Akporuno urged members of the communities where the new schools were established to work in harmony with the principals of the new schools for a speedy take-off of the schools, even as he promised to post teachers to all the newly established schools in the state.
In his response, the president-general of the community, Mr. John Onovroke, expressed appreciation to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the PPEB Chairman, Sir Patrick Akporuno for finding Akiewhe community worthy to be given a new school, adding that the people have been longing for a secondary school for the past 60 years.
