A newborn baby girl was killed by rats after a young mother left her at home to go to a party in Acolam, near Mexico City, Mexico.
Lizbeth Jeronima Fuentes Munguia left her four-months-old daughter under the supervision of a grandmother to go out dancing but when she returned… The baby girl was lying lifless in her cradle with part of her face and fingers eaten away by the rodents.
An 18-year-old single mother alerted her neighbours, who immediately called paramedics but it was too late. The newborn was pronounced dead at the scene, her body was taken for a post-mortem examination.
According to local media reports, Munguia and her mother were arrested and taken to police station for questioning. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 5.
Babies and young children are most frequently the rat-bite victims, especially if the baby is left with food or a bottle. Several months ago another newborn baby was eaten alive by rats at the Guntur Government Hospital in Andhra Pradesh state, India.
