CHRISTMAS: Okowa Enjoins The Rich To Share With The Poor
AS Christians all over the world prepare for Christmas, the Governor of Delta, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged the rich to share with the poor, saying, it is a time to show love.
Governor Okowa made the call yesterday (15/12/15) at Cathedral Church of Saint Peters, Anglican Communion, Asaba during the maiden edition of Delta State government's festival of nine lessons and carols organized by the Delta Broadcasting Service in conjunction with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters.
According to Governor Okowa, "Christmas is a time to seek peace with The Lord and peace for ourselves, it is a time to love each other, and to share, we should look out for those who have nothing and share with them."
The Governor who gave thanks to God for such an event to take place, emphasized, "today is about Jesus and not about us, the important thing is about what we do; it is a time to reflect on the type of journey we are on earth, that is reason for the season."
He decried situation where people complain about lack of fund for parties during the season, asserting that people should use the season to be at peace with God, with themselves and their neighbours.
The Governor read the first lesson while the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly read the second lesson at the occasion which was attended by the cream of the society including clergymen.
The Bishop of Issele-Uku Diocese of the Catholic Church who was represented by Monsignor Stephen Uzoma in a brief sermon, called on Christians to dedicate their lives to God noting, "as Christians, we find full meaning when we live our lives in Christ, we should dedicate our lives to Christ, it is the message of hope, message of joy and for this joy to be complete, we must be in harmony with every one.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters, Bishop Nmalagu Greatman thanked Governor Okowa for instituting the programme and commended those who made sacrifices for the carol to be a success.
