ROAD CONSTRUCTION: CHARLES STREET RESIDENTS THANK STATE GOVERNMENT

On the completion of the 1.505 kilometer construction work at Charles Street, Agbor, residents of the street have showered encomiums on the state government for rejuvenating the area back to life after several years of neglect.

They also recounted with nostalgia the importance of the road which connects the New Benin/ Asaba Express way from the Old Lagos/ Asaba road before it got bad and abandoned by successive administrations. The Landlords and residents of the street also appreciate the contractor and his men for the quality work done.

Some residents of the street, who were full of joy and excitement, expressed their feelings about the road reconstruction project which was awarded by the Delta State Government as part of her urban renewal programme.

In a chat with Ika Weekly, Chichi Frank, who operates a business outfit along the street, thanked the state government for the wonderful work on the street. She stated that his Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has really done well for us, now the road is smooth down to the express way and business activities will start to thrive again we are grateful to the state government for making us to also benefit from the dividends of democracy through his SMART Agenda programme. She also commended the contractor for doing a very good job.

For Oby Akwunwa, a trader along Charles Street, “The street is okay; we are very happy and grateful to all the persons who made the reconstruction project a dream come true. The contractor did a very good work mostly on the drainage, they tried very well. We pray God to bless them and also ask for more of such good works from the government.

According to Alex, who is a technician and a resident of Charles Street, “we are very grateful to the state government and the contractor for a very good job. It is most unfortunate that previous administrations abandoned the road; but thanks to God that we are now seeing the benefit of democracy within our immediate environment.

”On her part, Evangelist Rita Agboma, a resident of the area said, she appreciates the good work on the road by the contractor. “We thank His Excellency, the governor for awarding the contract for the reconstruction of the road which had been abandoned for years. May God bless them, we are very happy with the positive development.

Okoroafor John, A business man along Charles Street by Imudia Junction speaking said, “I appreciate the contractor mostly on the depth and width of the drainage which will make the road to last longer. Formerly the drainage used to be very small, it causes severe flooding within the area but now the bad drainage have been corrected. The government did wonderfully well for remembering Charles Street because formerly from the beginning of the street from old Lagos/ Asaba road to the Express way was in a deplorable state; so we give kudos to the state government for the marvelous work”.

Mr. Chuks Agholor, who is a Nurse by profession, a politician and also a landlord on Charles street, stated that members of the landlords in the area commends the state government for remembering Charles street and pray God to bless his Excellency governor Ifeanyi Okowa. “Greetings also goes to Hillary Ibegbulem, for his efforts towards the completion of the road, we say may God bless him too.

The landlords of Charles Street also appreciated the contractor for a job well done. Long live PDP, long live Delta State”. Mr. Agholor, advised residents of the area to ensure that they maintain their gutters regularly in order to avoid blockage.
