When you dream, dream big. We all have big dreams and the story of Olajide Lomah has been one of a young kid dreaming beyond his means. For a young boy growing in Ajegunle suburb, you can only dream of the good life while you work and pray to achieve it.
Born in Ajegunle Jllomah as he is fondly known now started music from the church, it was there his distinctive vocals were honed. He subsequently formed a group with two other singing buddies 'Satami Dat Ugly Boi' and Ckratu, they were known as Soul Divine.
The group lasted for five years and one of their most popular songs back then was 'Wiper', which they even shot a video for. Jlomah was influenced by artists like 2face Idibia, Sound Sultan and Psquare and he as particularly enamored by the talents of the twins especially Peter Okoye. He would picture himself performing to crowds of people while miming Psquare songs. The now Dallas based singer looks back at his roots in Ajegunle and how far he has come and says only God is to thank for the elevation and the transformation.
His viral hit single 'Spend' has proved to be a favorite of many across the continent and beyond. Jlomah says "Spend' was inspired by the need pass a message to people not to forget they need to spend this money they have worked hard for. 'The body that works hard for this money should be treated sometimes because tomorrow is not promised". The reaction to the song has been massive and Jlomah is overwhelmed by the response. The height of it was when his childhood idol Peter Okoye of Psquare made a video dancing to the song on the eve of his birthday. "It felt like a dream come true" he says. From people playing the song "Spend' on their snap chat to Kid Da Great making a dance video to it, the song has turned an anthem.
'Spend' was premiered on radio stations in Finland, Kenya and Zambia and it has been on heavy rotation on Brilla Fm and Radic City Fm in Tanznia and the messages of love keep coming in. Dancers across the world have taken a liking to the song and made many dance videos. From Ajegunle to Dallas, the message is spend your money, you deserve to enjoy the money you have worked hard for. Shoutout to Nigeria, shootout to AJ city, recession is not our portion.
