APC, PDP Supporters Clash In Sokoto Leaves Many Injured, Party Offices Torched
There was pandemonium on Sunday in Sokoto in Dendima area of the state following a free-for-all between supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The supporters of the two parties freely used dangerous weapons on each other even as both parties’ offices were set ablaze in the ensuing melee, leaving many people injured.
The ugly incident which took place on Sunday morning, was, however, brought under control following the intervention of the Nigerian Army and police.
The Sokoto State police spokesperson, El-Mustapha Sani, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, said the command would get detailed information and brief journalists on the incident today (Monday).
He, however, confirmed that a number of arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
The clash might not be unconnected with the perceived polarization of the state government as a result of the governor, Aliyu Wamakko’s defection to APC, with his deputy, Mukhtari Shagari opting to remain in the PDP.
