Report : Samuel Eto'o announces international retirement

Cameroon captain Samuel Eto'o could be poised to announce his retirement from international football, according to speculative reports.

The Chelsea forward is rumoured to have quit the national side after their 1-0 win over Libya on Sunday, a result which sealed the west Africans' spot in the final stage of World Cup qualifying.

Indomitable Lions coach Volker Finke was reluctant to comment on the matter.

"Samuel Eto'o is a great player and it is better that he should be the one to explain things," Finke is quoted as saying by various media. "He is the only one who can explain why he took the decision.

"Of course, he has given a lot to football in general and for Cameroonian football in particular. I cannot say more than this because he is the only one to explain this."

Eto'o, a record four-time African Footballer of the Year, has scored 55 goals in 122 outings for his country.
