BOKO HARAM: 19 Suspects Arrested By Vigilante Youths Group In Borno

Members of Borno Vigilance Youth Group (BVYG) have yesterday arrested 19 Boko Haram terror suspects in five villages of Konduga Local Government Area. The arrest took place forty eight hours after the killing of a vigilante youth by a policeman in Maiduguri.

Konduga is located 40 kilometres East of Maiduguri, the capital.

One of the vigilante youth, Ibrahim Yakub, disclosed that the arrest of the suspects was made in a three-day “search and hunt" of fleeing Boko Haram sect members at Konduga town and neighbouring villages of the council.

Commenting the arrest yesterday in Maiduguri, one of the youths, Abubakar Goni Adam, said the 19 suspects were pursued to the villages of Konduga and communities bordering Sambisa Games Reserves Forest.

“Our members had to intervene and act in tracking down these people that attack and kill in affected areas of the state. With the assistance of soldiers and the police, we are able to arrest 19 suspects along with some rifles and ammunition at Konduga at the weekend,” he desclosed.

According to Vanguard, the arrested suspects were tied with their hands behind their backs before they were transported to Maiduguri and handed to soldiers of 7 Division of Nigerian Army yesterday.

The arrest was yesterday confirmed by Borno State Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko. He added that some rifles and ammunition were recovered by youths from the fleeing Boko Haram sect members.

No fewer than 40 Nigerian soldiers were killed and the whereabouts of 65 others were unknown in the most recent attack by the outlawed group,  in Borno state.

Borno is one of the three states under emergency rule for more than three months, since 14 May 2013. Boko Haram’s insurgency has killed at least 3,600 people dead since 2009, including killings by the security forces.
