The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship  candidate, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa,  has been declared  the  winner of  the last Saturday’s  Delta  State governorship  election,  as he polled a total of  724,680 votes  to defeat his  Labour Party Peoples (LP) counterpart,  Chief Great Ogboru  who scored 130,028  votes.

The result, which was announced at the INEC office in Asaba by the State Returning Officer, Professor Bio Nyanayo, in the early hours of Monday after the initial delay in turning in the election results from the 25 local government areas, also saw the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Olorogun O’tega  Emerhor  scoring  67,825 votes to come third in the election.

The victory of PDP in the state was received with wild jubilation in Asaba, the state capital, and across the state as supporters of the PDP trooped out en masse to celebrate the victory.

Okowa cruised home to victory in the election when he clinched 21 of the 25 local government areas of the state while Ogboru won only four council areas. The APC candidate, O’tega Emerhor, failed to win in any of the local government areas.

Delta Opposition Concede Defeat, Congratulate Okowa

The opposition parties in Delta State have conceded defeat and congratulated the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on his victory at the just-declared Delta State April 11, 2015, governorship elections.

Working under the aegis of the Inter Party Advisory Council Of Gubernatorial Candidates in Delta State, IPAC, the opposition, in a statement issued at an emergency press conference in Asaba, said that from the results received so far, it had been completely convinced that Senator Okowa had taken an unassailable lead in the governorship polls and will win the elections.

The statement was read by Mrs. Oluremi Mohammed, the gubernatorial candidate of the People for Change Party, PDC, on behalf IPAC even as the last result from Aniocha North was still being awaited.

The group congratulated Senator Okowa and wished him success in providing democracy dividends to Deltans.

While affirming that the election was free and fair, the parties urged all governorship candidates in the April 11 elections to take the cue and do the same for the betterment and success of Delta state.
