Former PDP chieftain, Sunbo Onitri delivers 'get well' letter to President Buhari in UK (Photos)

 

Chief Sunbo Onitri, a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain and CEO of Sunbo Onitiri & Company in Lagos was at the Abuja house in the United Kingdom on May 29th, 2017 to deliver a letter to President Buhari who is undergoing treatment over his illness.

In his letter received by Buhari’s PA, he prayed for the quick recovery of the president, and also highlighted some of the issues being faced by the common man in Nigeria in recent times.

He also called on Nigerian youths to wrestle power from the elders for the leadership of the country.

In 2015, Chief Sunbo Onitri was part of the top PDP campaigners rooting for former President Goodluck Jonathan to retain the seat of the presidency during the election period.

Photos: Ghanaian woman arrested after she contracted someone to kill her business partner

 

The Ashanti Regional Police Command have arrested a 41-year-old woman after someone she allegedly contracted to murder her business partner, tipped off the police.

The suspect, Joyce Antwi, a trader and resident of Buokrom Estatae, Kumasi, was arrested by police on Saturday, May 27. According to the police, the suspect contacted the purported assassin to kill her business partner who she owed GHc 99,000.

Joyce Antwi received the said amount in October 2015 for the expansion of her business, and promised to pay back her debt by April 2017. The victim in April 27, approached the suspect and gave her a June 2017 deadline to settle the amount.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, who paraded the suspect before newsmen, said Joyce Antwi informed the supposed assassin on the 23rd of May, to assassinate her business partner, offering an amount of GH¢5,000, of which she made an initial payment of GH¢2,500.

“Joyce Antwi then asked the complainant to execute the job in the afternoon since the victim’s husband and children will be out of the house.”

“On Friday, 26th of May, the suspect, Joyce Antwi, took the complainant to the house of the victim at Buokrom Estate to show him the house,” DCOP Ken Yeboah stated.

But the purported contract killer who meant well, alerted the police about the intentions of the suspect.

"On the 27th of May went to the victim’s residence and asked her to call the suspect to come to her residence which she obliged, and she was arrested,” DCOP Ken Yeboah added.

Joyce Antwi subsequently confessed to the crime in her caution statement during interrogation, and is in police custody, assisting with further investigations.

Mother, 22, shows injuries she sustained after her boyfriend beat and strangled her in front of her 4-year-old son and it's horrific (photos)

A woman was beaten black and blue - literally- by her boyfriend until her face was disfigured. The boyfriend is now on the run and the woman is in hiding for fear of a repeat attack but she was able to share photos of her battered face and it is horrific, to say the least.

Jenna Louise Thomas, 22, is a mother to 4-year-old Romeo. She began dating Jamie Webber, 27, last four months, but the relationship turned abusive.

Late on Sunday night, as she slept next to her son at her home in Crindau, Newport, South Wales, Webber barged in and attacked her. He punched her several times and put her in a headlock until she fainted. When she came to, he did it again and again, for four times.

When she became conscious the final time, she called for help via an open window but Webber pulled her in and continued the attack. When he moved to close the open window, she took advantage of the opportunity to run out of the room and down the stairs.

Ms. Thomas said: "Me and my son were in bed, he started arguing and shouting at me to do with my son's father. Then he punched me and kept hitting me. He put me in a headlock until I passed out and then he did it again and again and again. He did that four times. My eyes are completely bloodshot due to him doing that."

She continued: "I managed to jump over the bed and run down the stairs. I didn't have long and I only had a minute to get away. I ran downstairs and ran into the street. He came out, jumped on top of me and bit my ear and punched me. It's all very blurry but I remember going to my neighbours and blood was dripping everywhere. Jamie didn't seem to care, he got into his car and everyone was shouting at him and screaming."

Ms. Thomas was left with black and bloodshot eyes along with severe facial swelling. She is now on the run with her son because she is too scared to go home until Webber is locked up. Webber is currently still on the run and Police have cautioned people not to approach him because he is potentially dangerous.

"My little boy needs to be back in his own bed but we are both too scared to go home while he's out there. If anyone knows where he is please tell the police, Ms. Thomas pleaded.

The single mother was treated for her injuries in hospital before police took photographs of her swollen face and red eyes. Gwent Police are checking the local haunts of Webber. A spokesman said they are actively looking for Webber and asked members of the public with information on his whereabouts to come forward.

Serena Williams reveals she doesn't know the sex of her baby yet, clarifies what Venus meant

Yesterday, Venus Williams gave the impression that her sister Serena Williams was expecting a baby girl. While granting an interview at the French Open, she referred to the baby as "she" and everyone assumed it meant it would be a daughter for Serena and Alexis but it isn't so. Apparently, Venus was misunderstood and Serena has now clarified.

In an Instagram post, the tennis champion revealed that she's looking forward to the surprise of finding out the gender of the baby on the same day the baby is born. She said her sister referred to the baby as "she" because there are five girls in their family so they are used to using the "she" pronoun when referring to each other and by extension, the baby. She also revealed that whenever she wants any of her sisters to do her any favors, she tricks them into believing she will name the baby after that particular sister, causing them to inadvertently refer to the baby with the female pronoun. 

The gender of the baby is still not known according to Serena.

Federal government to establish special schools for married women

Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, has disclosed that the Federal Government is planning to establish special schools that would cater for the educational needs of women who abandoned school to get married. Alhassan disclosed this at a press conference in Katsina today.

“All women that married at early age will have the opportunity to continue with their education from their husbands houses. The schools will be in two categories so as to avoid problems emanating from the establishment of the schools.
The first category is for those who started their schooling but due to one reason or the other dropped out. The other category is for the Adult Literacy classes that will be established in all local governments to assist women attain certain literacy level. In the Adult literacy schools, the women will also be empowered with skills training during their lessons. The women will be trained how to make soap, local soft drink, candle, pomade, cake, local hair dressing, tailoring and other small businesses”she said

Police officer dies as convoy of NDDC boss gets involved in an accident

A police officer attached to the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nsima Ekere, lost his life after a trailer lost control and rammed into their convoy earlier in the day.

The NDDC boss and his entourage where on their way to Calabar, Cross Rivers state to receive acting presidnet Yemi Osinbajo when the accident happened. A statement issued by the NDDC’s Director, Corporate Affairs, Toye Abosede reads in part;

"The convoy of the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima.Ekere, has been involved in a road mishap. The incident, along the Calabar-Itu Road, occurred when a trailer ran into the pilot vehicle carrying policemen attached to the NDDC Managing Director who was on his way to Calabar to receive the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital where they are receiving urgent medical attention for injuries. Unfortunately, one of the policemen could not be saved. Members of the entourage in other vehicles were unhurt in the unfortunate incident’’.

Google unveils plans for its new £1billion London based Headquarters (photos)

Google has unveiled the final plans for their luxury £1billion UK headquarters. The 870,000 sq ft building planned for Kings Cross in London will be the first office the tech giant has designed for itself outside California. It will have sleep pods, an Olympic sized swimming pool, wellness and fitness centre with a gym and a large indoor sports hall for games and a rooftop field with 200 metre running track to ensure wellness for up to 7,000 staff.

NURTW chieftain, Hamburger's wife, daughter arrive Nigeria from Dublin for his burial

The wife of NURTW chieftain killed in Shogunle on May 29  has returned to Nigeria with her eldest daughter, for the burial of her husband.

Alhaja Abolore Bello flew in from Dublin, Ireland, ahead of Aro Rasaq Bello's burial which has been slated for Friday 2 June.

A family source told P.M.Express that the wife came into Nigeria on Wednesday night with their first daughter, Kafayat, and they are currently staying with the deceased's mother in Odalume Street, Ladipo, Lagos.

Before his death, 49-year-old Aro Rasaq Bello, AKA Hamburger, was the chairman of the Lagos State Motorcycles Owners Association in Oshodi. His wife and four children live abroad but she returned with only her first child for the burial.

Nigerian first ICT university underway- FG says

The Federal government says it plans to establish an Information Communication Technology University in Nigeria. The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, today inaugurated an implementation committee that would work towards establishing the institution.

According to Adebayo, the ICT university is being established so that Nigerians can keep pace with the rapidly changing technological advancement in the global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry,

enhancement of the ICT learning environment, stimulation of critical thinking, propel innovation, bridge the digital divide, increase contribution to the GDP using ICT.

Shittu in his inaugural address, said that ICT plays a critical role in the sustainable growth and development of any nation, citing the Nigerian example which he said stands “at the rate of 24.42% growth, the ICT sector is currently the fastest growing in the Nigerian economy”

He went on to state that the proposed Institution would offer a variety of programs aimed at providing professional knowledge and expertise required for a specialised career in the field of Telecommunications, Internet of things, Cyber Security, Robotics, Embedded Systems, Computer Forensics, Digital Media and Entertainment Technology.

According to him, “The proposed Institution has been endorsed by the Nigerian government, global leaders in the ICT industry such as Cisco, Facebook, Huawei, D – links, Lenovo, Samsung, Apple, Siemens, Intel, Motorola, Ericsson, Dell, HP, IBM, MTN and the Globacom”.
