1. Use antiperspirant daily
Make it your habit. There is nothing complicated in using it before leaving the house. What is the difference between antiperspirant and deodorant? The second one is just covers the odour. And antiperspirants contains some ingredients that reduce sweating.

2. Say ‘No’ to synthetic clothes
Synthetic fabrics, such as nylon, rayon and polyester can easily trap heat and make your body to sweat more. Clothing made of natural fabrics, such as cotton, wool, hemp, silk or linen, often have a looser weave than synthetics. So you should better pick up some clothes that can breathe. Even some man-made fabrics can be good: bamboo, lyocell and modal. Also you can choose colours of your outfits more wisely: if you know that you sweat a lot, try to avoid white clothes. Shoes should be ‘breathable’ as well.

3. Less stress

4. Less coffee – more profit
Lot of office workers can’t imagine their daily routine without a cup of hot coffee. But a bad thing is that coffee will raise your internal temperature and signal to your body start producing sweat. Drink more water to reduce this effect.

5. Less spicy food
Spices can activate the sweating process as well as coffee. When you eat spicy food, brain sends signals to your sweat glands that organism needs to be cooled off. Junk food is also responsible for your sweating. It contains too much salt. So your body tries to get rid of it with sweating.

6. Probably you need to visit a doctor

What first got you interested in exploring the dark side of our culture’s obsession with technology?
In Silicon Valley, the herd is going one direction very fast, kicking up clouds of dust. It was a simple journalistic impulse to say: Why are we going that direction so quickly? Then I also saw my own behavior: watching the certainly magnetic, if not magical allure of my device. I thought something’s going on here, and as I was saying it, scientists were beginning to ask the same question. So it was a pretty good holy trinity journalistically of an almost overwhelmingly conventional wisdom, science questioning it, and a gut instinct that my own behavior was changing profoundly.

You write of a powerful clash between technology and the human brain. What’s the root of the conflict? Are we just not hard-wired to keep up with all the information technology throws at us?
We’re creating stuff that is so powerful as to almost be supernatural. The pace of innovation is practically light speed and the pace of evolution is snail speed. We don’t change at the pace technology changes just as we have not changed at the pace that food has industrialized, so we don’t metabolize junk food any better than we did 50 years ago. We’ve just learned we have to be careful with it. Similarly we have to learn to adapt to technology in a world that is changing way, way faster than we can evolve.

Drawing on that analogy between the industrialization of food and the emergence of our omnipresent mobile devices, what lesson can we draw?
Things that have enormous power to serve us can also have enormous power to take advantage of us. It can steer you against your own interest in invisible ways or in ways you just don’t want to acknowledge. So, 96 percent of people say they shouldn’t text and drive, and 30 percent do. I can only think of one other thing that a gap so profound exists — the gap between what smokers say they should do and what they actually do. There’s a reason smokers say one thing and do something else — they’re addicted, sometimes to the point of killing themselves. I think if you watch your own behavior, often you are going to your device whether inside the car or out of it, to get a little boost of dopamine in the same way that maybe smokers get a little boost of nicotine. What if some part of our interaction with our devices is not need, urgency, or even necessarily connection, but rather a kind of neurochemical fix?

If that’s the case, how deeply and permanently has technology affected our neurochemistry?
If I spend two or three days without my device, I can live without it and I kind of don’t want to go back. That says to me that while it might have addictive properties and be extremely habit-forming, it is possible for a lot of us to break that with some effort. But it’s harder for young people because the part of the brain involved in making good decisions — the prefrontal cortex — is not yet developed.

Even for those of us with mature brains, it can feel impossible to disconnect; the temptation to check our phones is too strong. So what do we do?
It sounds so silly, but the very first thing is to make a concerted effort to disconnect on a regular basis for a period of time. Because research shows, when you have a lot of information coming at you and you’re processing a lot of it, you’re diminishing your ability to make a decision. When you’re in the car texting or even talking on the phone, you compromise your ability to make decisions in both of those contexts. Get enough space to let your brain nap. That’s critical.

The second thing is, you deplete your brain over course of the day through things large and small; even choosing what to wear begins to deplete executive function. If every free second, you’re checking your device, you’re stealing resources from decision-making you may need later. You don’t want to bleed your brain to death tweet by tweet.

Did writing the book change your own relationship to your phone?
The biggest thing, and it’s changing by the day as I watch myself embody the very things the scientists warned me about, is that I turn it off when my kids are around. For two reasons: If it’s in my pocket, I feel a yearning to check it, even if I’m not expecting it. It’s like going outside to get a little fix. The other reason is I know I’m setting a very clear example for my kids.

Was it like going through withdrawal to start to “unplug”?
I’m intensifying my efforts to turn it off on the weekends. That’s hard, because I get an itch now and again. I play a lot of tennis, and someone’s going to text me since there’s no other way to communicate — no landlines anymore. Once you’re drinking the beer, why not have a cigarette? All of sudden I’m checking my email, my Amazon numbers. I think this is a very, very powerful device in the way it plays to primitive social wiring and our deepest reward systems, and we need to catch up to that understanding or it has a chance to enslave us rather than become the most powerful tool we’ve ever had technologically.

On that note, what is the biggest takeaway readers should draw from your work?
That your relationship with your device is not what it seems. You should scrutinize it so you can own that little monkey and it doesn’t own you.

Patients in Zimbabwe suffer as about 300 junior doctors stay away from work demanding a salary rise from $283 to $1,200 a month

Patients have been waiting in long queues while others were being turned away at state hospitals in Zimbabwe, as hundreds of doctors staged a strike to press for higher pay.
About 300 junior doctors went on strike at the lapse of a two-week ultimatum for the government to address their demands for a pay rise of nearly 400 percent.

“The nationwide strike has attracted an overwhelming response from all government hospitals over 300 doctors withdrawing their services until the employer meets their demands,” Farai Makoni, president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, told the AFP news agency.

“What the doctors are asking for is not anything out of this world.”
Makoni said the junior doctors wanted their monthly salaries increased from $283 to $1,200, their housing and transport allowances raised and were also seeking a risk allowance.
“These grievances have been there for some time and the strike shall be protracted if the employer continues to pay a blind eye to the plight of doctors.”

A few senior doctors were working at major government hospitals in the capital, with patients having a long wait in the outpatients’ departments.

At Harare Hospital, one of the country’s largest health institutions, which caters mainly for the urban poor, doctors were attending to emergencies only while turning away non-critical patients.
The health ministry said in a statement it was concerned that the doctors went on strike “without exhausting the existing mechanisms for dialogue”.

“The government remains committed to improving the working conditions of all its workers within the provisions of the available fiscal space,” it said.

Zimbabwe government hospitals suffer perennial staff shortages as well as a lack of equipment and essential drugs.

2015: Group Raises N150m For Ngilari’s Election As Gov Pleads For Time To ‘Pray And Consult’

Bala Ngilari of Adamawa said he would consult and pray before taking final decision on whether to contest for the governorship of the state in 2015 or not.

Ngilari said this on Wednesday in Yola, when he received a governorship nomination form purchased for him by the Adamawa Progressive People Movement which urged him to shelve his senatorial ambition and go for governorship.

He said “I am not preparing for this; my intention was to go to the Senate, but I will pray and consult.

“Give me time to consult and pray to God to give us direction. I want to assure you that I will do what is right”.

Earlier, the leader of the group, Lawrence Ngbale, said the group had collected contributions across the state of over N150 million, out of which, it bought the form for Ngilari and would use the balance for campaign.

“This is a popular project by the people of Adamawa who contributed over N150 million.

“You don’t need to spend a kobo as this is the people’s project and they are ever ready to sponsor it”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ngilari, who served as Deputy Governor to impeached Murtala Nyako, was returned as substantive governor following an Abuja High Court ruling that said his purported resignation as deputy governor was null and void. (NAN)

Delta 2015: Okowa visits UPU, described as a detribalised Deltan-Jonathan Onwuka

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has been described as a man filled with great ides on how to move Delta State forward. He has also been described as eminently qualified to pilot the affairs of Delta State.
The observation was made at Jesse, Ethiope West local government area of Delta State, by the leadership of the Urhobo Progressive Union, ( UPU ), when Senator Okowa paid a consultation visit to the apex Urhobo socio - cultural body last weekend.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Tuesday Onoge noted that what the nation needs are people who are capable and willing to lead the people with equity and fairness, adding that, "at this point, what Deltans truly need is a governor who will carry everybody along irrespective of ethnic origins. We do not need somebody who will come to promote selfish interest."

He noted that Senator Okowa has great ideas on how to move Delta State forward, saying he (Okowa) has been able to convince the people of his readiness to give the state purposeful leadership when given the mandate to lead.

He maintained that the ethnic clamour for different political positions across the country was because of the self interest pursued by a lot of people occupying public offices, adding that Senator Okowa has proved himself a truly detribalised Deltan.

While praying for Senator Okowa, the President - General of Urhobo Progressive Union, Chief Joe Omene, praised Okowa for the many successes recorded in the different positions he has occupied. He particularly commended him for the many bill he sponsored in the Senate, especially the National Health Bill, which he pointed out would have tremendous positive impact on Nigerians.
 
Earlier, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, had informed the UPU leadership of his intention to vie for the position of governor of the state. He said his decision was born out of a burning desire to bring his wealth of experience to give Deltans purposeful leadership that would enhance development in the State.

He promised to run an inclusive administration, "that will ensure equity and fairness in all that we will do. The recognition that is due to each ethnic group would be given to it. We will focus on the strength that unite our people. We will build a state united for the people. "

He said his administration will focus on employment generation, wealth creation, agriculture and industrial development, urban renewal, improved health delivery and technical education.

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa takes Delta State by storm as he officially declares for Delta Guber 2015

For those who came into the town of Asaba for the first, the traffic jam with people in branded shirts of Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa will deceive one as the campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan. Daily Voice Managing Editor, Fejiro Oliver, who was at the venue reports that Arcade, where the event took place was filled with people who had come from far and wide to pledge their unalloyed loyalty and solidarity to the campaign train of Okowa.

The event which began with an opening prayer was anchored by Urhobo orator, Professor Achonacho who in his characteristics manner wowed the audience with his rhetoric of grammar. Speaking at the event, Prof Sam Oyovbaire, former Minister of Information affirmed that he had travelled all over the State, but had not seen a detribalized Deltan like Okowa. He pleaded with Deltans to give him a chance to lead them come 2015.

The Okowa train was beautified with the presence of the most popular online media team, Deltans Diaspora, whose Co-Founder, Mrs Sophia Odogwu flew in from London to grace the occasion, alongside the National Co-ordinator of the group, Mr Smart Ikem, who notably took the centre stage, as Deltans Diaspora from all over the State and Europe were well positioned, with their branded shirts visibly seen.

The international association to Okowa was further boosted with the presence of the Deltans Diaspora leader from Spain, Lady Vivian Isioma Daco, who was on ground to represent her team. Still basking in the euphoria of pulling international associations, the National Association of South South Students pledged the support of all the South South students to vote for Okowa come 2015. Symbolic with their aluta spirit, they eulogized Okowa as a man who has put smile on the faces of students while expressing pity to opponents who will vie against him during the primaries.

The National Leader of Delta Political Vanguard, Michael Diden aka Ejele was on ground to make his speech. The A in his programme means: Agricultural Reforms and Accelerated Industrialization, with R meaning; Relevant Health and Education Policies, while the T means, Transformed Environment through Urban Renewal.

He told the mammoth crowd that he is on a message to bring prosperity to all Deltans and the time is ripe to step into Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan’s shoe. Going down memory lane, he reminded the faithful on how he was the Director General of Patrick Osakwe during the latter’s campaign for Senate, which he won. According to him, when Osakwe left the Senate, he handed over to him. Again, during Uduaghan’s campaign, he once again served as the Director General, and history will repeat itself as Uduaghan hands over the baton of leadership to him. With his slogan of ‘Prosperity for all Deltans’, he enjoined all present to be ready for a marathon governance of wealth for all by 2015.

The event which was full of glamour saw various dance groups from all the ethnic groups in the State entertaining the crowd.

Delta 2015 : Okowa Declares For Governorship, Promises Robust Health Insurance

BEVERLY HILLS, October 20, (THEWILL) – Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa on Monday formally declared his intention to contest the 2015 governorship in Delta State, promising that if elected, his administration will pursue a legislation that will support and promote universal health insurance policy for all Deltans.

Okowa, who was ushered to the podium by former Information Minister, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, flanked by former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairman, Captain Pius Sinebe (rtd), among other party faithful, at the declaration, said as a medical professional, health for all Deltans is paramount and dear to him.

He said he will consolidate on the good work of incumbent Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, whom he described as “oga and leader” in the health sector.

According to Okowa, as a senator, he had been deeply involved in promoting necessary legislation to sustain and advance health and medical practice, and institution and personnel in the health sector. Addressing the mammoth crowd which thronged the Oshimili Arcade in Asaba, Okowa said that during his tenure if elected as governor, at least one city or urban settlement in each of the 10 federal constituencies will be designed for comprehensive renewal.

He however rolled out a five-point agenda which included strategic wealth creation projects and provision of jobs for all Deltans, meaningful peace building platform aimed at political/social stability, agricultural reforms and accelerated industrialisation, relevant health and education policies as well as transformed environment through urban renewal, saying these would be his kernel of administration. Okowa, who currently represents Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said the existing Polytechnics in the state will be refocused toward specialisation .

“This is one sector for which I will want to be remembered as having made a distinct mark. There is a compelling need to accelerate technical and vocational education by converting and equipping some existing institutions or same purpose,” he added.

While saying that robust and focused agricultural extension services will be put in place to support farmers, the PDP aspirant said; “it is my earnest desire to encourage and create the enabling environment for commercial farming to thrive through the private sector and public/private partnership”.

He also spoke about peace building and security, saying; “I will take appropriate measure to sustain, increase and even introduce new measure to contain and tackle the sources which breed and encourage insecurity.”

Maintaining that wealth creation and employment generation will be the kernel of his administration, Okowa who spoke with high hope and passion said; “deliberate effort will be made to generate employment and productive livelihood for the teeming youth population, which will go a long way in reducing undue conflict in social relations and community lives.”

Speaking about his commitment to Deltans, Okowa said; “no one can doubt my deep knowledge and commitment to my people of Delta state to all the communities, the aspirations of the people, and the tremendous challenges facing us.”

Continuing, he said; “My faith in Delta state is limitless, unwavering and bountiful,” adding; “even when my constituency became delimited by law to Delta North, I never ceased to be of service to the entire people of Delta state.”

He also spoke about his relationship with Uduaghan which many say has suffered since the governorship race, saying he still maintains a cordial friendship with the governor. He however expressed optimism that come May 29, 2015, Uduaghan would hand over the mantle of leadership to him, saying Deltans have agreed to give him the mandate .

“Uduaghan is my governor, my friend and leader. No matter what you hear, our friendship can’t be washed away. I will develop and improve on the good work he has started. We have always worked together as friends, I was his first Director General of his campaign and the relationship has been there . So when it is time, he will hand over to me,” Okowa declared. Speaking earlier, the Director General of Okowa’s Campaign Organisation, Hon Festus Ovie Agas, appealed to PDP delegates to vote Okowa during the party forthcoming primaries and the general elections.

Former PDP state’s chairman, Chief Pius Sinebe, urged the people of Delta North not to throw away the chance they have to take a spot at the governorship position, saying Okowa is the best among equal that they should rally around and present to other senatorial district of the state. According to him, the governorship position in the state is “a turn by turn thing, I am praying that after Okowa’s full tenure, it will return to the Urhobos and then nobody from Delta North will contest with them, that’s the kind of thing I pray for in Delta.”

BAN ON MOTORCYCLES IS A TACTICAL SABOTAGE –Obi of Owa

The Obi of Owa Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II (JP) OON has stated that the recent ban on Okada operations in Ika land by the State Government is untimely.

The monarch made this statement last week Friday in his palace while paying host to delegates from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ika correspondence chapel.

He pointed out that the ban which the State Government has enforced with the intention of reducing crime rate, may have a negative result if care is not taken since many who have been rendered jobless, may go into crime. He stated that since there are no good network of roads in Ika land, the ban ought to have been suspended.

He further noted that the option of tricycles, popularly known as Keke na pep, is not better that the Okada since majority of the people in Ika land are farmers and that they need the motorcycles to carryout their business. He reaffirmed that the ban should not be the State Government’s priority but rather, the State Government should re-prioritize and provide a better road network, industrialization and other essential facilities that could better the lives of the people.


He emphasized that though security is important but the government could tackle it better without the ban on Okada operations.

According to the monarch, “majority of the criminals in police records are not Okada riders”. I don’t rule out the fact that Okada riders can constitute nuisance yes they do. But even in the parliament, the politicians fight. The lawyers even fight in court. So where lies the difference? So if the government say the ban is based on security risk, before the ban, the government should have called the people who are involved in the trade and warn them that if certain crime does not stop, within a specified period of time, their operations will be banned. So the people will go back and ensure that the fight against crime is intensified. Even if they say everybody should be using cars, there is no assurance that from now till December there will not be cases of armed robbery or kidnapping. Crime has been there right from the beginning of the earth. We the people of Ika, are not criminally inclined and crime is not peculiar to us.

The monarch further described the ban on Okada operations as a deliberate punishment to the downtrodden and tactical sabotage to the Federal Government’s interest, especially during the elections period, as the electorate would find it very cumbersome to go the polling units to exercise their franchise.

He urged the State Government and other relevant authorities to look into the current ban on Okada in Ika land and stipulate the areas where the Okada riders are free to operate with the two local government areas to prevent the people from being misled. The monarch also expressed disapproval with the manner which the enforcement agents impounded motorcycles from their warehouses and also those parked in the banks and other offices, adding that since the motorcycles were not in use, they ought not to have been impounded.

Delta Monarch Faults Uduaghan Over Okada Ban

…It’s a slap on traditional institutions, residents, says Obi Efeizomor

The traditional ruler of Owa Kingdom, Owa-Oyibu in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta state, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II (JP), has faulted Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan over the recent ban on commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Okada in Agbor metropolis.

The monarch said the governor carried over the implementation of the ban without any regard for the tradition institution, stressing that the ban was a slap on the integrity of the traditional rulers in the area.

The implementation of the ban which led to the destruction of hundreds of Okada has triggered a protest in Agbor, a development which had prompted the press briefing held at the palace of the monarch on Monday.

This followed the enforcement of the ban in the metropolis by the Task Force constituted by the state Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Ben Igbakpa.

Addressing newsmen, the monarch said that Governor Uduaghan had disrespected the traditional rulers in the area by not calling them to a town hall meeting over the proposed ban before enforcing the ban which is already causing the people hard times.

“Why did the government not call a town hall meeting or call on the motorcycle operators to find a lasting solution to the alleged crime committed if it is because of crime that made the government ban motorcycle operation?” he asked.

Obi Efeizomor who was flanked at the media briefing by the mother of Nduka Obaigbena, THISDAY Newspaper publisher, Dame Margret Obaigbena, also queried, “how many of the children of those persons who banned Okada business are in Okada business?”

He said “let the government establish industries/factories for the teeming youths as well rehabilitate the roads and streets in the two Ika Local Government Areas before banning Okada.”

According to the monarch, the ban on commercial motorcycle (Okada) business should not have been Uduaghan’s priority for the people, saying the state government should have done something about the state of the poor roads in area and thereafter call a town hall meeting where Okada riders would be present, to find solution for the growing crime rate in the areas.

Obi Efeizomor queried the yardstick the state government used to indicate that crime is growing in Ika nation than any other ethnic nationality, asking whether the ban on Okada was part of the manifestoes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, with the ban in the areas, more than 4,000 jobless youths surviving on Okada (motorcycle) operations have been callously thrown out of business, which, he said, enabled them to feed their immediate families and dependants.

The monarch however called on elected political representatives of Ika Nation at the State and National Assemblies to take seriously the ban on motorcycle (Okada) business in the two Ika Local Government Areas of the state as a direct challenge on them to pressurise the state government to lift the ban for the relief of the worsening situation forced down on the rural populace.

He wondered why the representatives of the people of Ika nation at the State and National Assemblies did not raise the voice of discontent and rejection when the ban was being handed down on the masses who, he said, constitute the electorate in the election year.

Besides, Obi Efeizomor bemoaned the ugly situation where the Task Force had to go into shops and people’s premises to carry motorcycles simply because Okada operation is banned.

Also, the Chairman of the motorcycle dealers at Abraka road, Boji-Boji Owa in the area and the Motorcycle Mechanics Association have lamented that more than 78 motorcycle dealers have been thrown out of business.

The motorcycle dealers chairman further lamented that billions of naira invested on the motorcycle business would go down the drains if the ban was not lifted.

Meanwhile, many pupils and teachers have been finding it difficult to reach their schools as civil servants, market women and farmers trek many kilometres before getting to their schools, offices and farms as a result of the ban.

2015: GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARIES: PDP GIVES POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS DEADLINE TO RESIGN

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a directive to ministers and political office holders with governorship aspirations to resign their membership of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) latest by October 20 to enable them contest for the primary elections of the party.

According to the guidelines for the governorship primaries, the party stated the last date for resignation and retirement of public officers, political appointees, civil servants and party officials who are aspirants is October 20.
Some of the ministers and cabinet members expected to resign owing to the directive are the Minister of Information and Orientation, Labaran Maku (Nasarawa); Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); Minister of Labour, Emeka Wogu (Abia); Minister of State for Education, Nyeson Wike (Rivers); Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (Lagos); and the Special Adviser to the President on Monitoring, Sylvester Monye, among others, ThisDay reports.
Also billed to resign are the party chairman of Delta State, Peter Nwaoboshi, and his counterpart in Bayelsa State who want to make a bid for the Senate.

Also, according to the guidelines for the PDP primaries, the purchase and return of forms is slated for between October 27 and 28, while the ward congresses to elect the three ad hoc delegates is slated for November 1.
In the same manner, the local government area congresses for the national delegates and the purchase and return of forms is between November 3 and 5, while the local government congresses are expected to take place on November 8 and appeals thereof are expected to take place on November 10, 2014.

The guidelines further indicated that the closing date for primaries for the state Houses of Assembly is November 3, screening is slated for November 10, while appeals on screening is slated for November 12.
In addition, House of Representatives primaries have been slated for November 19, while the appeals thereof are scheduled for November 21; senatorial primaries are expected to take place on November 22 and the appeals, if any, are expected to take place on November 24.

For the governorship primaries, the closing date for the return of forms is November 8, screening of governorship aspirants is November 13, appeals on screening are expected to take place on November 17.
The state primaries are billed to take place on November 29, while appeals, if any are billed to hold on December 1, 2014.
Though the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan, the party’s presidential primary election is categorised in the following order: The closing date for the return of forms is fixed for November 15, the screening of presidential aspirants (if any) is billed for November 24, the appeal is expected to take place on November 26, while the National Convention to ratify Jonathan as well as amend the constitution of the party is slated for December 6.

The guidelines for the presidential nomination also state: “For the purpose of nominating the presidential candidate, the party shall hold a special convention in the Federal Capital Territory where delegates shall vote for each of the aspirants at the designated centre.
“The aspirant with the highest number of votes at the end of voting shall be declared the winner of the presidential primary and the aspirant’s name shall be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate of the party.”
In terms of qualifications, governorship aspirants must not be less than 35 years; must present tax clearance certificates; have not been indicted for any misconduct; must be of sound mind; and have not been convicted of any offence involving homicide, fraud, dishonesty or involved in the sale of narcotic drugs or any psychotropic substances or has been adjudged guilty of treason or treasonable felony.

The aspirants must be nominated by 45 party members from at least two-thirds of the local governments within the state who shall be registered voters in their respective local government areas and registered members of the party.
The aspirants are also expected to attach a duplicate copy of their party membership documents to the duly completed nomination forms.

Delta 2015: Trends and Challenges before aspirants

Even with the contention on whether power shift to Delta North is a desirable political option, there are new dynamics in the trends of the shaping contest that points to the fact that the key to the Government House in 2015 will go to the Anioma nation unless the political actors from the region bungles the opportunity.

As events unfold on the political scene, the critical issues remain that dominate the space are that of equity, justice and fairness for all sections of the state. There are also issues of the collective aspiration of the people to produce the next governor against the personal ego of the political actors, but above all, the need to eschew any form of imposition of aspirant, from any quarter.

Uduaghan, Gbagi, Okowa and Ochei
Watchers of the unfolding political trends in Delta State will ignore the body language of the present occupant of the Unity House at Okpanam road, at their own peril. It important to understand of the thinking of the man who whose tenure expires on May 29, 2015.

What is clear is that the entrance of the former Permanent Secretary, Government House,Chief Tony Obuh, into the governorship race has become the game changer.

Game changer
The shape of the battle ahead are beginning to emerge and even the doubting Thomas’s will begin to accept the fact that the key to the government House in Asaba may indeed go to a Delta North person.

Who that person would be remains a matter of high level politicking
First, there is going to be a resistance from the political class and entrenched interest in the politics of the state. Secondly, there will be a re-alignment of forces by those who want to cling to anybody that gets into office by those whose mission in politics is stomach infrastructure.

It will mean redrawing the political map of the State in a very significant way. This will manifest in the ascendancy of minorities, who may hold the balance of power in the new process of social and political re-engineering of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who has said that he will not hand over power to “over ambitious politicians.”

Secondly, it has redefine the content and character of the 2015 battle both for the PDP and the opposition parties that are waiting for PDP to bungle.

Matters arising from the entrance of Tony Obuh
It is still too early to draw conclusions on the emerging trends in Delta politics, but there are some key factors must be taken into considerations.

The first will be the disposition of the national leadership of the ruling party which is now facing the crisis of managing what the political class in the state is calling imposition of an aspirant on them. But Dr. Uduaghan has tried to show that he was not imposing any aspirant on the state by staying away from Chief Tony Obuh’s thanks giving event in Agbor this last week end.

This notwithstanding, Obuh is seen as an aspirant who enjoys the confidence of his boss and that seems to be galvanizing osmotic pull of crowd towards his direction.

Chief Obuh may not have a pedigree as a politician but he comes without any baggage which makes his entrance attractive.

The promoters of Delta United for Tony Obuh are people who are seen to be very close to the powers that be in the state.

The expected backlash
As stated earlier, it will be interesting to see how the leadership of the Party in the State and at the national level handles the emerging scenario without implosion.

Delta state is a predominantly PDP state and any candidate that gets its ticket is presumed to have a greater chances of winning but, chairman of Anioma Agenda, Barrister Alex Onwuadiamu said the elections in Ekiti and Osun states have left some valuable lessons for the leadership of PDP to guide them in making any decision in Delta state. On the other hand the APC is watching to see where the blunder from PDP will be a blessing in disguise for it.

Okowa’s burden
Chief Tony Obuh hails from Ika and many observers believe his entrance will have significant impact on the aspirations of Dr. Ifeanyi A. Okowa, the seating Senator for Delta North who was seen by many as one of the leading contenders in the race.

He is believed to enjoy a broad based support across the state and his supporters argue that he had the promise of Chief James O. Ibori, in 2007, to step down for the incumbent governor and prepare to succeed him at the end of his eight year term.

Now, the Ika nation will have to choose between Dr. Okowa and Chief Tony Obuh. Whoever picks the governorship ticket between the will mean that the Senate seat that is presently held by Dr. Okowa, will be tossed up. Ika nation will not hold the governorship and the Senate seat at the same time. This will bring the Aniocha/Oshimili and Ndokwa Federal Constituencies into the fray. Already, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi and Dr. Maryam Alli, Hon. Pascal Adigwe have lined up while many people expect Prince Ned Nwoko who contested in 2011, to stage a comeback.

Challenges before the Aspirants
The political atmosphere in Delta State is simmering. The political class in the state is up in arms to resist what they consider to be an attempt by the governor to manipulate the issue of who succeeds him in 2015. But that notwithstanding the three Senatorial zones have lined up their men in spite of the strong agitation for equity, justice and fair play. From the Central Senatorial District, there is robust challenge to the idea of Delta North producing the next governor. From this zone we have the likes of Chief Great Ogboru, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, Olorogun David Edevbie, Obarisi’ Ovie Omo-Agege as the key contenders. Olorogun David Edevbie,the former Commissioner for Finance was hailed as”the man that Delta State needs and the last minute joker for Delta Central”. Edevbie was the Principal Secretary to late President Umar Yar’Adua and was expected to galvanize the Urhobo nation in quest to regain power in 2015. But in the event of PDP insisting that Delta North should get it, then it will be a catch 22 situation for Olorogun Edevbie for whom the option of going to fly the flag of an opposition party will be far-fetched.

This is a challenge facing the likes of Obaris Ovie Omo Agege who contested for primaries in 2007 and later joined Action Congress of Nigeria, in 2011 and mounted a stiff opposition to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, when his election was annulled in 2011.

The former Minister of State for Education is Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi has the resources to challenge for the office but his effort to create a support base in Delta North remains an uphill task given the determination of aspirants from Delta North not to play a second fiddle.

Former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs Elder Godsday Orubebe is only notable aspirants from Delta South in the race.

Even in a fair contest the former Minister will put the ruling PDP in a situation where it has to explain why a particular senatorial zone will have a straight back to back hold on such a sensitive position.

Delta North Train
The other outstanding aspirants include: Chief Victor Ochei, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu,Chief Jackson Opone, Chief Charles Emetulu, Chief Godswill Obielum, Prof Sylvester Monye and Dr, Ngozi Olejeme who is one of the female aspirants.

Until the recent events that forced his resignation from office as the speaker of Delta Sate House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei was one of the formidable aspirants for the office of the governor of the State.

The former Speaker has strength of character and courage which his detractors find very uncomfortable in the state where sycophancy had become an industry.

Ochei has the structure and the financial muscle, the vision and intellect to weather the storm. He has also fought bruising electoral battles in the past. He is an electoral asset that PDP would not toy with.
Hon. Godwin Ndudi Elumelu is another tested hand in electoral battle front. This two term member of the House of Reps, representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency has the political structure, financial muscle and political sagacity to clinch the ticket.

Chief Clement Ofuani has been seen many analysts as one of the aspirants in terms of his vision, level headed, forthrightness and competence o govern the state.

Prof Sylvester Monye who is the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Project Monitoring is considered to be a front runner although he has no electoral track record comparable to the likes of Okowa, Elumelu, Ochei, Utomi, Okocha, and Obielum

While it is desirable to have female voices Nigeria’s Governor’s Forum, the truth is that Delta state may not prepared to have a female as the Chief Executive. This is the major obstacle to Dr. Ngozi Olejeme and Dr. Esther Uduehi who are also formidable aspirants in their own right.

With entrance of Sir Tony Obuh in the race, it will be interesting to see who far Dr. Festus Okubor and Prince Sam Obi will manage their own aspiration when it comes to choosing between Dr. Okowa and Sir. Tony Obuh for Ika nation. It will be unwise to ignore the influence of Chief James O.Ibori and the National leadership of PDP in this race. Also crucial will be the role of Dr. Cairo Ojugboh the South South regional Chairman of the ruling Party who hails from Ika and finally, the position of Anioma Congress in canvassing that there should be a power shift and that a qualified and tested hand should be selected from Delta North.

Barrister Alex Onwuadiamu is of the view that the election in Ekiti State and Osun States would seem to suggest that Nigerians would defeat any policy or action that they are not comfortable with regardless of the incumbency factor. With 25 local government councils in Delta state, none of the three Senatorial zones can singularly produce the Governor for the State. A combined strength of Delta South and Delta Central will produce 16 states, but to win the require 25% spread, the winner will get 17 Local Governments. Those who claim that Delta Central alone produces 60% of the votes in the state are being economical with the truth. The truth is that negotiation cooperation and and collaboration are the key factors.

Tears, Pains As Delta Enforces Okada Ban in three Local Government Areas

Unprecedented outburst of tears and pains were evident yesterday in Ika South and Ika North East local government areas of Delta State as the state government commenced enforcement on the ban of motorcycle operation (Okada) in both local government areas.

During the exercise that lasted several hours by the State Directorate of Transport alongside a team of Military personnel and tricycle union in the state, over 50 motorcycles were confiscated by the state taskforce.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Benson Igbakpa who led the team noted that though the level of compliance was not 100 per cent, but described it as commendable, just as he explained that a similar exercise which commenced in Sapele recorded higher level of compliance.

While commending the Military for their cooperation during the exercise, Hon. Igbakpa decried the absence of the Police stressing that despite his formal invitation to them for the exercise, they failed to show up.

Meanwhile, contrary to insinuations in some quarters that a political big shot in the area was behind the ban, the Transport Commissioner said, “Let me use this opportunity to correct this ‘devilish and malicious rumour’, because, we have since received the information that a particular politician in Ika North East was the brain behind this exercise. The said Politician is not part of the State Exco and I wonder why he should be accused of influencing the state government’s decision. That rumour is evil and, malicious” Igbakpa said. While reaffirming that the ban cuts across every nooks and crannies of the affected local government areas, Igbakpa advised residents in the area to be patient with the state, just as disclosed that the ban was in the best interest of Deltans as it seeks to address the increasing security challenge in the affected local governments.

Some of the residents, who spoke with our correspondent in the area, decried the ban Íwhich they noted will rather heighten their sufferings just as they observed that “Okada was their only means of transportation given what they described as the poor road network in the area as well as considering the fact that local governments are mainly agrarian communities.

The POINTER reports that the commencement of the ban in the three recent local governments, bring the local government areas already affected in the state to eight.
