Speaking at the inauguration of the board members of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria in Abuja, Fashola said going by the economic slow down being experienced globally, most house owners have adjusted their rent by giving their tenants some discount but in Nigeria, that has not been the case. Speaking, Fashola said;
"Just recently, I checked the property markets in some other jurisdictions and because there is a global economic slowdown, what we see is that people are offering discounts in order to ensure optimum occupancy. But I’m not sure that the practice is the same here. So are these values consistent with the realities? Why are we not seeing rates, rents and values drop? Why are we having many houses unoccupied when people are looking for accommodation? The argument sometimes has been that properties are valued higher so that it can have impact on percentages and commissions. Let me just ask you a question since everybody is here; is there nothing that we can do in this country about this practice of demanding rent for two, three years in advance from people who get their salaries monthly in arrears? Is there nothing that can be done, because we can’t continue like this?”

The controversial photo which was shot by famed photographer Tyler Shields generated quite a lot of comments with a lot of celebrities against it and that includes those who oppose Donald Trump.
Following the backlash, Kathy apologized for the photo but Secret Service is not leaving it at that.
TMZ reports that the Secret Service does not jump to conclusions that provocative photos or writings are serious or in jest and will not automatically pass the photo off as art. 34-year-old mother of four who got impregnated by her 13 yr old student and served 7 years for second-degree child rape seeks for divorce after 11 yrs of marriage
Mary Kay Letourneau began an affair with Vili Fualaau when he was her student and only 13-years-old. Letourneau, who was 34-years-old at the time and had 4 kids, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison after she pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree child rape.
Letourneau gave birth to her and Fualaau's first child while she was behind bars and once she got out, she married Fualaau in May 2005. They have two children together. Now, 11 years after they tied the knot the couple have legally separated and are in the process of getting a divorce.
"They’ve been having issues for awhile now," says a source close to the couple. "They tried to work through them, but it didn’t work. They’re still committed to being good parents to their children."
When Letourneau's affair with 13-year-old Fualaau became public in 1996, their story sparked national controversy at the time. Even after they got married, the unusual nature of their relationship still made them topics of interest. In 2015, they sat down for an interview with Barbara Walters of ABC News, where they discussed their relationship, marriage, and parenting. Letourneau revealed then that she would like to get her name taken off the sex offender registry. When Walters asked Fualaau how he would feel if his daughters came home and said they were sleeping with their teacher, he replied:
"I don’t support younger kids being married or having a relationship with someone older. I don’t support it."
A source close to the family say that there is no third-party involved in the breakdown of their relationship and also that a reconciliation is highly unlikely.
34-year-old mother of four and Fualaau was 13 - ignited national controversy. After the relationship was revealed, Letourneau pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree child rape and served seven-and-a-half years in prison.

Throwback photo of Ojukwu as he declared Independence of Biafra on May 30th,1967
As today marks the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Biafra War in
Nigeria, this is a throwback photo of the leader of the breakaway
Republic of Biafra, Colonel Odumegwu Emeka Ojukwu popularly known as
'Ikemba' reading a speech as he declared the independence of Biafra on
May 30th, 1967.
Following the declaration,
in July 1967, the head of Nigeria’s military government, General Yakubu
Gowon declared war and attacked Biafra for 30 months.
After three years of non-stop fighting, in fear of being assassinated,
General Odumegwu-Ojukwu in 1970 handed over power to his second in
command, Major-General Philip Effiong and
traveled to Ivory Coast where he was in exile for 13 years.
In
1982, the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Shehu Aliyu
Usman Shagari granted an official pardon to Odumegwu-Ojukwu and opened
the road for a triumphant return for him.
He
contested as a presidential candidate three times under his party, All
Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) but lost. Until his illness, he
remained the party leader.
Ojukwu died in a London Hospital in 2011, at the age of 78.
Islamist militants stone man to death for cheating on his two wives in Somalia (photo)
Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia buried a man neck-deep and stoned him to death allegedly for cheating on his two wives. Dayow Mohamed Hassan, 44, was killed in the southern village of Ramo Adey in front of hundreds of onlookers.
Moalim Geedow, the regional governor representing the al Qaeda-linked insurgency, said Hassan was buried in a hole then pelted with stones.
He said: 'The man was married with two wives and children. He was publicly stoned to death today for committing adultery according to the Islamic sharia. The man had a third woman who was a divorcee. He did not have her according to sharia. He deceived her, saying that he went to a sheikh and that he married her. However, when the woman got pregnant, the two families debated and there was no trace of valid matrimony. The court ruled he did not marry her legally and he was stoned to death."
Since 2006, Al-Shabaab has been fighting a violent insurgency in Somalia to overthrow the government and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law. In recent years the terrorist group has lost control of many towns and cities to a 22,000-strong force of African Union peacekeepers. However, the group retains a presence in many villages and remains capable of launching deadly attacks.
This will not be the first time a man is being partially buried and then stoned to death for adultery by Islamist militants. In 2009, in the same Somalia, Mohamed Abukar Ibrahim, a 48-year-old, was buried in a hole up to his chest and pelted with rocks until he died in Afgoye, some 20 miles south-west of the capital of Mogadishu.
The Buhari administration has created a new set of millionaires- Lai Mohammed, says Nigeria is out of recession in Agricultural, Manufacturing and Solid Mineral sectors
Minister
of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, was a guest on Channels TV
this morning where he highlighted the gains of the Buhari-led
administration, one of which he said is that the government has created a new
set of millionaires through its agricultural policies. Speaking during
the interview session, Lai Mohammed said;
"What this government has done is that in the area of agriculture, we have created a new set of millionaires in Kebbi, Imo, Jigawa, Kano states so much that today, these new farmers have been empowered and we have made agriculture quite attractive to them".
On why
food prices have continued to increase in this administration, Lai
Mohammed said
"In any country where you lack basic infrastructure like roads, railways, power, you are going to have a situation where the cost of food would go up and that is why we are investing in infrastructural development. On rail line, we have commenced the construction of the 150km per hour Lagos-Ibadan rail. We have been able to put down our $1.2bn counterpart funding that would make us do also Kano-Kaduna-Calabar and Port Harcourt line. By the time these things are put in place, traders would be able to bring tomatoes by train from Kano to Lagos ou would be able to bring food from the middlebelt and that is what is going to make your food cheap. As we speak today, what government is trying to do is how do we subsidize transportation of these food items to bring them down. So if you don't have power, roads, railways in any part of the world, the cost of food would go up".
According
to the Minister, the government has been able to move the economy out
of recession in the agricultural, Manufacturing and Solid Mineral
sectors.
"Despite these austere times, we actually did move out of recession in manufacturing, agriculture and solid minerals"
Lai
Mohammed explained that Nigeria has been able to move out of recession
in the manufacturing sector because of the government's commitment to
"invest in infrastructure, to improve the ease of doing business and
unlike the previous administration where 16% was spent on infrastructure
in 2015, we spent 30% in 2017 and that is why you can see that we are
climbing out of recession".
Lai added that in
2015, 29 sub sectors of the economy were under-performing but this
administration has decreased the number to 16.
