Patriot Dantes Odogwu,SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT ON NEW MEDIA TO GOV OKOWA
Quite humbly folks,I posit that as one who has been actively around a while now in the Social Media environment,that I am qualified to lend a voice to critical issues which are prevalent in the Social Media turf. Moreover, since it's also the case that many New Media stakeholders consider one as a veteran, it invariably becomes my duty to endeavour to provide a measure of exemplary leadership which equally includes the responsibility of speaking out eloquently and fearlessly when it's apt to do so.
Hence,in pursuance of this muted but salient responsibility,I begin by expressing my reservations that some Facebook,Twitter and Social Media subscribers and users (in more specific terms,the youths) are beginning to see these Media Platforms as channels to come up with the most sophisticated smears, insults and criticisms against their opponents. But suffice it to say that,mudslinging,smears and varied forms of destructive criticism and insults are not necessarily indicators of intelligence,mental prowess,wit and sagacity.
In my own assessment,what definitely would connote or portray these aforementioned virtues are useful/helpful ideas and non -destructive creativity channeled through the vehicle of criticism. So then,if anyone claims to be TRULY intelligent and selfless, one won’t be on Social Media especially Facebook hauling insults on one's PERCEIVED political opponents. Rather,one would seek to add value to the political space by taking recourse to constructive and positive presentation of one's criticism. In all,the ACTUAL intent of one's critiquing shall never be to pull another person down BUT to assist such an individual in becoming a better person, leader or politician.
Speaking now more specifically as a patriotic Deltan,I think that the prevalence of negative articles,posts and comments particularly those targeted against the person of the Governor, his Aides and Government generally is unarguably unnecessary.
Mind you,no one is saying that the Governor of Delta State and his Administration are above criticism but my take is that anyone who is driven by a sense of altruism and selfless desire for a greater and more prosperous Delta State would always seek to utilize his/her criticism in obtaining beneficial accruals or dividends to all Deltans ;inclusive of the Governor himself. Yes, Gov Okowa may not be perfect just like everyone of us but what is indisputable is that His Excellency is a man that is irrevocable committed to giving to Deltans (during his tenure) a Delta State infused with Prosperity for All.
Moreover,having also worked variously with Gov Okowa, I know him as an unassuming personality that is very receptive to other people 's ideas,opinions,contributions and even useful criticisms .So my appeal to all Facebook and Online stakeholders is to join the Governor through their posts, comments and articles to move Delta State to greater heights.
In the final analysis, may it not be said that any of us contributed to pulling down the 'House ' that accommodates all of us just because our friend,relative,principal and role model did not eventually become the Governor of Delta State.
My point in all of this is therefore this :it is rather better and more profitable to discuss and post ideas that inspire solutions to the challenges that are inherent in our present day society....particularly our dear Delta State.
In the final analysis, Delta State remains ours together :it is for you,me,Gov Okowa and everyone else. Would any of us wish to jeopardize our collective patrimony and survival just because of his/her selfish interests or desires? I think not so.# Therefore,My dear Media folks,come join me in my new assignment so that working together, we can collectively recreate, redefine and redeploy our dispositions, approaches,and methodologies (as the New Media) towards Government,its apparatuses and indeed political Leadership mostly in our dear Delta State.
