Falcons Await Last-4 Opponents after Stunning Defeat
Nigeria senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, were shocked 2-1 by Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday and now await the outcome of Sunday’s clash between Ghana and Cameroon to know their semi-final opponents.
The reigning African champions, who had earlier thrashed Congo and Tanzania, lost their last group game on Saturday to finish the group stage with six points.
Cameroon and Ghana have a point a piece after their respective 1-1 and goalless draw with South Africa, who currently top the three-nation Group B with 2 points, following Egypts withdrawal from the women’s Football Tournament of the All-Africa Games.
At present, all three nations have chances of progressing into the knockout stage.
A win for either Cameroon or Ghana will eliminate the other at the expense of South Africa, while a score draw outrightly eliminates the former amongst other possible outcomes; including a coin toss for both South Africa and Cameroon were the game to end goalless.
