THE Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien has charged all former political aspirants to make themselves available for the governing and quick development of Delta State.
The Obi, gave this charge when Chief Clement Ofuani, a former gubernatorial aspirant, paid him a felicitation visit on Thursday, to congratulate him on his 90th birthday celebration.
While receiving Chief Ofuani, who came with close friends and associates, the Asagba commended him for making himself available for governance immediately after the elections, stating that it was an attitude worth emulating.
“Some of the aspirants had the attitude of number one or nothing else, and such attitude is not good for development because, there can only be one governor at a time. Campaigns are over, elections are over. Now is the time for governance. You have set aside personal aspirations and made yourself available to move this state forward and that is the attitude many other politicians need to emulate,” he said.
He stated that the new administration had already shown commitment to developing the state by a few bills which have already been passed, especially the Delta Capital Development Bill, and promised full support from the palace.
Speaking earlier, Chief Ofuani congratulated the monarch on his 90th birthday, stating that it was one that called for a big celebration. “You have been a father to the whole Anioma nation and Delta State as a whole, not just Asaba indigenes. By virtue of your input in the academia, you are indeed a father to so many, and your 90th birthday is very much worth celebrating,” he stated.
Speaking further, he said that Asaba has enjoyed 24 peaceful years of his reign and wished the monarch more happy years on the royal stool.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a beautiful hand designed birthday card, alongside a keg of Ubulu-okiti palm wine, kolanuts and other items, which the nonagenarian monarch received with pleasure.
