Sad: How 46-Year-Old Man Impregnated His 11-Year Old Daughter

A 46-year-old man, Morris Ndidwe has been apprehended by the police in Delta state, for allegedly raping his 11-year-old daughter and impregnating a neighbour’s daughter.

Alkali Baba Usman, the state police commissioner, who confirmed the arrest, said having obtained a confession from the suspect he would be prosecuted according to the law.

Ndidwe’s wife claimed her husband had made several attempts to defile his 11-year-old daughter prior to his arrest.

She alleged that her husband’s behaviour was the reason she quit the marriage initially adding that she returned only after pleas that he will change.

“I initially moved out of my matrimonial home after my husband impregnated a neighbour’s daughter,” she said.

Adding that her daughter always told her of the ordeals she passed through at the hands of her father whenever she was not around.

Ndidwe’s wife narrated how she confronted her husband, who blatantly denied the claims. However, she said she returned from church one afternoon, only to catch him in the act with his daughter.

She said: “I relented a second time on my resolve to quit the marriage, after much pleading that he will stop the act from that moment.”

The aggrieved mother said the incident that put paid to Ndidwe’s escapades was that which happened a few days ago.

She said: “At about 9pm, my husband drove me to the church for a vigil and was alone with our children all night.

The next day when I returned, my daughter told me what her father did to her.

When I decided to check her private part, my husband refused and almost beat me, but my neighbours intervened.”

According to the Punch, it was at this point that Ndidiwe’s wife reported the case to the police.

She said Ndidiwe’s arrest was ordered in a bid to save her daughter from further danger, pleading that if the suspect is not jailed, he might do worse things to the young girl.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, September 22, the Badarwa/Malali Concerned Forum in Kaduna, arrested a 46-year-old man who allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl for ritual purposes.

Baba Mohammed, the suspect who confessed to committing the crime, said he defiled the girl purely for money rituals.

Bare-chested women dance, trance Togo mysterious sacred stone

Bare-chested and with leaves wrapped around their necks, a small group of voodoo worshippers emerges from a dense forest in southern Togo.

The oldest among them, a man in his sixties with decorative beads around his neck, carefully holds up a blue stone and closes his eyes.

“We started the ceremonies six months ago,” says Nii Mantche, the high priest of the sacred forest, from his position on a wooden stool.

“Today is the climax — the release of the sacred stone. I am the only person to take out this stone from the depths of this forest.” Voodoo has a special place in the life of the people of Togo.

The nature-based belief system emerged at the end of the 16th century in the town of Tado on the Mono river, which separates the country from Benin to the east.

Followers worship a single god, the Mahu or Segbo-Lissa, through more than 200 deities who are represented mostly by clods of earth.

The tiny West African nation may have only seven million people but 51 percent practise voodoo, which has multiple forms — more than those who follow Christianity and Islam combined.

In the south, voodoo shrines dot the countryside where most Togolese live, guarded by high priests and priestesses.

In Lome, the fetish market is renowned across west Africa and is home to traditional healers using objects from skulls and dried animal skins to bones, features and statues to treat ailments.

– Voodoo new year –

For the Guin people of Aneho, Togo’s second city some 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of the capital, Lome, the annual Epe-Ekpe or Ekpessosso festival in September marks the start of the new year.

The traditional “taking of the sacred stone” ceremony was started in 1663 by settlers from the former Gold Coast — modern-day Ghana — and has now taken place 353 times.

It includes a major rite in all voodoo places of worship to beg the gods for forgiveness.

The colour of the sacred stone is believed to indicate what the future holds for the coming 12 months.

Last year, the stone was white, which with blue indicates good fortune. Red signals danger, according to followers.

About 100 metres (yards) away from the high priest of the sacred forest, thousands of pilgrims gathered in the public square to sing, dance and recite incantations.

“Helu-lo, helu-lo,” they sang in the local Mina language — “misfortune to bad spirits”.

In the centre of the circle, high priestesses turned westwards, raised their arms and cried in turn: “Obe, abeba, obe abeba (all the gods join us).”

Some followers, wearing cloth wrappers up to their chests and long multi-coloured beads around their necks and arms, began dancing joyfully.

“We are invoking all the divinities of the Guin people so they protect our sacred stone that has just come out from the forest,” explained one voodoo priestess.

– ‘The gods are angry’ –

The mystical stone was passed around the public square under the watchful gaze of voodoo elders and about a dozen police officers.

Female followers fell into a trance as the singing and dancing erupted around them.

“The stone is turquoise blue,” a dignitary declared into a microphone.

But he warned: “The gods are angry with the priests and traditional Guin chiefs. They are calling for unity and reconciliation.”

In the run-up to the ceremony, Guin priests were unable to agree on how the ceremonies would proceed and the Togolese authorities had to step in to mediate.

“The message announced by the stone is clear,” said Guin elder Togbe Kombete.

“We have offended our ancestors with our little squabbles. We must sit down quickly around a table and talk so we no longer have these small problems.”

The Epe-Ekpe festival attracts pilgrims from across Togo to worship, sing, offer sacrifices and seek blessings.

Increasingly, followers from Benin, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria come to worship, and it has become a tourist attraction for many Western visitors.

“Every year our brothers and sisters have to respond to the call of the deities,” said Lankpan Vaudoussoto Agbografo, a high priestess.

“We pray and make offerings. I’ve been to this ceremony for the last 28 years and my wishes are always granted,” she added.

Aya Ayayi Freeman, from Nigeria, has come to Glidji-Kpodji since he was a boy.

“It’s the tradition that our ancestors left us and I will never abandon it. This sacred stone is my spirit.”

Actress Funke Adesiyan disses Omotola “Your Dressing Unfit For Mother Of Four”

Actress Funke Adesiyan has said she has no regret criticising fellow actress, Omotola Jalade, for wearing a cropped top to a public event recently.

Funke, who was angry at those who criticised her buddy and colleague, Bimbo Thomas, who posted a picture where she wore a swimsuit on the social media, said it was irrational of the people who made nasty comments concerning what Bimbo wore.

“I stand by what I said. People should stop being hypocritical. I don’t see anything wrong with anybody wearing a swimsuit at a beach; do you expect the person to wear agbada? Omotola is my senior colleague whom I respect a lot. She is pretty and very strong. But this is my opinion. If people want to criticise somebody for wearing a swimsuit to a beach, they might as well criticise Omotola, a mother of four, for wearing a cropped top to a public event. It is my opinion. I didn’t intend to insult her person or personality, I just expressed an opinion,” Funke said.

On whether she didn’t care if Omotola felt bad that she called her out on social media, Funke said, “She has not told me that she feels bad about what I wrote. I don’t see why anybody should cry more than the bereaved. It wasn’t out of malice that I said what I said and of course, I am not jealous of her. I can never be jealous of anybody.”

Funke insisted she wasn’t defending Bimbo because she is her friend but because, “I can’t stand injustice. You don’t have to be my friend for me to speak up for you.”

Eyebrows Raised As Buhari Heads To UN Assembly With Only Northern Governors

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday, September 24, 2015 leave Nigeria for New York, USA for the 70th United Nations (UN) General Assembly where he is to address the World Leaders Summit on Violent Extremism.

According to a State House press release signed by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, President Buhari is heading to the US with a delegation made up of the Governors of Sokoto (Aminu Tambuwal), Kaduna (Nasir El Rufai) and Niger (Abubakar Sani Bello).

Also on the delegation are the National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno, the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (Ambassador Danjuma Nanpon Sheni), Defence (Aliyu Isma’ila), Finance (Anastasia Mabi Daniel-Nwaobia), Health (Linus Awute), Industry, Trade and Investment.

Criticism has greeted the news of Buhari’s UN delegation with Nigerians expressing concern over the President’s decision to attend the UN General Assembly with a delegation with only Northern governors, especially in the wake of the recent outcry that greeted the announcement of several key appointments in his 4-month old administration.

According to reports, one of such commentators, Uche Ezechukwu questioned if the president was ever going to change the impression that he is pursuing a Northern agenda.

The journalist who spoke with elombah.com said: “Is it possible that Buhari is incapable of change? When will he start seeing Nigeria beyond a narrow regional vista? He goes off to New York to attend the UN General Assembly, on Thursday, accompanied by three Northern governors, from Sokoto, Kaduna and Niger states. I know some of his most fanatical supporters who are getting very frustrated with the current state of affairs.”

Another observer, Law Mefor who also spoke to the online news medium said: “Some say the President is free to govern with those he is comfortable with. There should be nothing wrong in moving the capital of Nigeria to Daura, going by the warped logic which stands the nation’s laws on their head.

“But seriously, in a federal, pluralistic environment such as Nigeria, a President must necessarily spread out his wings. He would have lost nothing taking even one Governor from southern Nigeria. That is what federalism is all about – inclusiveness. If those Governors are going because of development, there are States in the South as poor as many States in the North and they are traveling at federal expense.”

Okowa, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, described Onosode’s death as a great loss to Deltans and Nigerians in general.

He said the late Onosode was a great technocrat, administrator, astute and disciplined politician who engraved his footprints on the sands of time, having served his fatherland meritoriously in different capacities.

While condoling the Urhobo Nation of Delta State , Okowa pointed out that Onosode’s death came at a time when his service , contribution and ideas are most needed.

“We, however, take solace in the fact that the late icon’s sojourn on earth remains a huge blessing to humanity”, the governor declared.

Governor Okowa further regretted that Onosode’s very rich ideas would have come handy in the present socio- economic and political uncertainties in the country.

In particular, Dr. Uduaghan said that Pa Onosode was honest, decent and upright all through hence it was easy to run to him for advice whenever the need arose during his tenure as governor.

Uduaghan said that one of Pa Onosode’s princely qualities that was endearing to him was his simplicity even with his influence and power, adding that in spite of his achievements and attainments in life he remained simply “Mr. Onosode or Deacon Onosode” till his death.

“Pa Onosode was a role model, a quintessential father, archetypal elder statesman, a devout Baptist, a patriotic Nigerian, scion of Delta State and a family man to the core”, the former Governor stated

Assembly Confirms DBIR, CSC Members Appointment

The confirmed nominees as members of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, yesterday, assured Deltans that the Board would pursue her internally generated revenue with all vigour and survive as a state without relying on the Federal Government allocation monthly.

The Chairman nominee , Monday Onyeme, gave the assurance while answering questions from the lawmakers during the screening exercise of the members of the Board at the hallowed chamber of the state legislature in Asaba yesterday.

Onyeme, a Chartered Accountant, assured that under the incoming Board, Delta State will surpass the feat of Lagos State that generates 70 percent of its annual budget internally, assuring that the incoming Board under his watch would work towards achieving that feat.

According to him, there is a Federal Government Tax Law that compares every employee working in a state to pay his or tax to the state of resident, saying the law empowers the Board to bring all Federal Government employees working in the state to the state tax net.

“There are some employees working in the Federal Government ministries, departments and agencies (MDA) in Delta State that have not been captured in the tax net of the state government. We will tax all employees working in Delta State and bring them to the tax net to boost the internally generated revenue (IGR) of our dear state”, Onyeme assured.

He said the companies operating in the state that are not paying rent to the state government would be compelled to pay rent to the state government through the tax net.

Onyeme said the Board would also boost her IGR through ground rent that constitute 20 percent of her IGR, adding that the Board would partner with other agencies to ensure that all buildings in the state have Certificate of Occupancy “C” of “O” aimed at providing revenue to the state government.

While answering questions on behalf of other members of the Board in attendance, he assured that all hotels and event centres would be brought to the tax net of the state.

The House presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya confirmed the Chairman, Sir Monday Onyeme alongside Barr Mike Edegware (Secretary), while Mr. Goddey Iwebuke Daniel, Hon. Solomon Oghrakpata and Mr. Barry Gbe to serve as members of the Board of Internal Revenue.

The motion for the confirmation of the nominees for appointment as members of the Board of Internal Revenue was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere and seconded by the member representing Burutu 11 Constituency, Hon. Kennedy Daubry.

Delta Moves To Mitigate Flood Effects

To curb the effect of the impending flood, the Delta State Executive Council [EXCO] met yesterday and set up a high-powered committee which has the state Deputy Governor, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro, as Chairman.

Briefing the press after the executive council meeting which took place at Government House, Asaba, the Commissioners for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah; that of Works, Chief James Augoye and his Basic and Secondary Education counterpart, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, observed that though awareness campaign was going on in different riverine communities sensitizing them on the urgent need to move to safe areas, the Committee was necessary to reduce the effects of the impending disaster.

According to the Commissioners, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration was not leaving any stone unturned in safeguarding the lives and property of Deltans, adding that the committee would ensure that appropriate measures would be applied to educate and protect the people and appealed to journalists and stakeholders to be involved in the exercise.

The commissioners also disclosed that the EXCO meeting, which was presided over by Governor Okowa, approved the establishment of three new secondary schools in Asaba, Ughelli and Agbor to cater for the number of students which has risen in public schools as a result of the handing over of some schools to the missionaries.

Ebie specifically said that due to the current financial crunch, existing structures would be used for the new schools, reiterating that the intention of Governor Okowa’s administration was to maintain the universally accepted students to teachers’ ratio.

He asserted that existing teachers would be deployed to the new schools, disclosing that the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) has more than fourteen thousand teachers in its payroll.

“Despite the financial situation of the economy, EXCO looked at the need to ensure that our children gets the best in education, so, the new schools will reduce the crowding been witnessed in some of the schools and we are doing it with little or no cost because we are using existing structures,” he said.

He also said, that EXCO approved the refurbishing of the three technical colleges that were not already been reconstructed to provide more technical institutions in line with Governor Okowa’s desire to empower Deltan youths with the needed skills to be self-sufficient.

To ensure that the roads in the state were motorable, the Commissioner for Works stated that EXCO has directed the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) to embark on palliative measures to make the roads motorable while waiting for the rains to stop, assuring, “we are going to embark on massive construction of roads, we are just waiting for the rain to stop.”

On the emerging menace of trailers parking on the highway by the Asaba International Airport, the commissioners said the situation was frowned at and measures have been put in place to check the ugly trend.

Okowa Woos South African Investors

In his determination to boost the revenue base of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has assured investors in the tourism sector of favourable environment to tap into the state’s rich tourism potentials.

Speaking yesterday when the Consul-General of South Africa to Nigeria, Ambassador Sam Mobaisa, paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba, Governor Okowa said investors, especially, South Africans were welcomed to Delta State, assuring that the enabling environment has been created for investment to thrive.

While conceding that the dwindling revenue from oil has made Nigeria to start looking at other sources of revenue, Governor Okowa reiterated that Delta State was richly blessed and investors were welcomed in the tourism and other sectors of the economy.

He commended South Africans for their interests in investing in the state, especially in the area of commerce which has led to a functional Shoprite in Warri while another was being constructed in Asaba.

“We appreciate you (Consul -General) for encouraging South African companies to come to Delta State, we will be glad to receive them because the hospitality industry itself will help boost our economy and help to unite our two countries as Delta State is a crucial part of the country’s economy,” he said, adding, “we will be glad to have this investment come to our state, we are truly ready to consolidate on our warm relationship with South Africa.”

He reiterated, “Nigeria and South Africa are leading in Africa and I believe that working together in partnership will make the continent stronger and there is a lot for us to gain as a state.”

“For us as a state, we desire to develop our people and to provide enabling environment for investments to thrive because we believe that it is only through the inflow of investment and the growth of industries that we can truly provide employment for our people, but, beyond that, we have already started some programmes to engage and empower our youths through agriculture and skill acquisition programmes because, we know that the only way we can achieve sustainable peace is to ensure that our youths are meaningfully engaged,” he said, noting, “for a very long time, we have depended on oil and I think that as a nation, we have to find means to diversify our economy and in so doing, we need investors flowing into the country and to that extent, we as a state are trying to establish three industrial parks across the three senatorial districts of the state.”

Earlier, Ambassador Mobaisa had said South Africans were happy to be doing business in Delta State, observing that the Mandela Garden of 95 Trees established in Asaba has strengthened the ties between Delta State and South Africa.

While commending the government and people of Delta State for the enabling environment which has led to the establishment of Shoprite in the state, the Consul-General disclosed that there are South African investors who were also interested in investing in tourism and commerce who will be visiting the state.

Why Officials Won’t Reveal Cause Of Late Singer’s Death

Medical examinations have discovered the exact cause of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s death but no one is saying anything to the public.

Kristina Brown was found motionless in her Roswell, Georgia home on Saturday January 31, 2015. Following this, she was moved to the North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, Georgia for adequate attention as it was discovered she was alive and in fact still breathing at the time.

A police source said examinations couldn’t show if there was any direct link between the incident and alcohol or drug abuse.

She was put in a medically-induced coma for nearly six months afterwards but passed on July 26 at 22.
