A 45-year-old man miraculously came to life moments before being dissected by morgue workers in Mumbai, India.

The lifeless man was found lying at a bus stop and rushed to a nearby hospital by police officers, where a senior doctor checked his vital signs and declared him dead.

The body was sent to the morgue for the autopsy but while doctors were preparing for the procedure one of them noticed a “dead” man breathing. Panic started to engulf the medical staff and the man eventually woke up.

As soon as the senior doctor heard the news he immediately tore up his death report and erased an entry he made in the casualty ward diary. Moreover, when police officers arrived to file an death report, hospital staff refused to let them in.

Hospital dean, Dr Suleman Merchant, commented on the incident: “We have reprimanded the doctor and have told him that in such cases the body must be kept in the casualty ward for a cooling off period of two hours. This doctor is new to the hospital and so isn’t familiar with the procedure.”

Both hospital authorities and police have launched an investigation in the case. The man is currently being treated for an ear infection and malnutrition.
