Ministerial Screening: Sokoto Senators Ignore Petition, Endorse Aisha Abubakar
The senators representing Sokoto state on Wednesday, October 28, endorsed ministerial nominee, Aisha Abubakar despite petition against her competence to perform her duties.
This was disclosed in a letter signed by the three Sokoto state senators, Ibrahim Gobir(Sokoto east), Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto North) and Ibrahim Abdullahi Dan baba (Sokoto south).
The letter read: “After due consultation with our constituencies, the senators of Sokoto state do hereby endorse Aisha Abubakar as a ministerial nominee representing Sokoto state.
“Therefore we urge all senators to give us all the necessary support and understanding for this confirmation.
“Please accept the assurances of our esteemed regard.”
Aisha Abubakar who hails from Sokoto state is among the last set of ministerial nominees appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to be screened today.
Other nominees to be screened are Okechukwu Eyinna Enelamah, Anwuka Anthony Gozie,Muhammed Musa Bello and Adamu Adamu.
Since the screening, 31 nominees have been screened so far.
Recall that the Sokoto state chapter of the All Progressives Congress recently sent an official letter demanding that Buhari erases Abubakar’s name from the list of the ministerial nominees on the grounds she is not a party member. The APC leaders in Sokoto state insisted that her nomination violates the constitution of Nigeria as well as the conventions of the ruling party.
