Ezi community in Aniocha appeals to Gov Okowa
THE people of Ezi community in Aniocha North local government area of Delta State have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to redress the long issue of political marginalization of its people by appointing their sons and daughters into some positions in his administration in the interest of equity, fairness and justice.
Rising from a meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, the community leaders who met under the auspices of Ezi Patriots said the community has suffered long and serious neglect in the hands of previous administrations in the state as none of their sons or daughters had ever manned any political office be it elective or appointive at the state level.
A statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Emeka Oshuoha and Comrade Nnamdi Ofonye respectively, said the people decided to make the call as one of the many but peaceful options adopted to draw the attention of the government and other well meaning stakeholders across the state to their plight.
Apart from political appointments, the community noted that they have again been schemed out of the present empowerment programme of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration as none of their sons or daughters was shortlisted in the more than 1500 beneficiaries so far released while also lamenting the lack of government’s presence in the area of provision of infrastructures and basic amenities in the community.
The statement read in part, “it is a pity that a community that prides itself to have produced the first catholic reverend father in West Africa, the late Rev. Fr. Paul Emecheta, will be allowed to face such level of neglect and marginalization.
There is no light, no road and no water as even the very foundation of the community has continuously been threatened by perennial gully erosion.
This is traceable to the fact that there has never been any body from this community in any position of authority at the state or federal level to speak or draw government’s attention to these ills facing its people.”
