The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government in Delta state has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not win the governorship election in the state because Deltans did not believe in the party and its empty promises.
The chairman PDP, Delta state chapter, Chief Edwin Uzor, stated this while reacting to a recent media report credited to the Delta state APC governorship candidate in the April 11 election, Olorogun O’tega Emrhor, purporting that Delta State has been faced with high debt profile, poor state of infrastructure, acute poverty, increasing unemployment and under development in the past sixteen years PDP has ruled the state.
Chief Uzor said the APC had all the opportunity to sell its manifesto to the people during the electionering campaign, and actually did, but that did not earn the party any confidence.
While saying that the said report lacked merit, the Delta state PDP chairman maintained that poverty and unemployment are global economic problems affecting even developed nations and should not be held against the PDP led government in Delta state.
He explained that in a bid to create jobs and improve the living standard of the people, the PDP led government in Delta state had embarked on economic empowerment programmes, including the micro credit programme, farmer support programme, skills acquisition programme and the First Class Graduate scholarship scheme.
Chief Uzor said there had been a significant upgrade of facilities in primary and secondary schools across the state , coupled with free enrolment of candidates for WAEC and NECO examinations, as well as a sustainable bursary and scholarship scheme for deserving undergraduates of Delta state origin.
On infrastructure, the Delta state PDP chairman said the government of Delta state has constructed roads and bridges across the state too numerous to mention , as well as the Asaba International Airport, the Asaba and Effurun flyover bridges among others.
Chief Uzor averred that the PDP led government in Delta state had maintained unequalled record of free maternal and under five health programmes which had impacted positively on the lives of women and children, adding that the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara, a flag ship project of the Delta state government, had recorded major feats in the treatment of live threatening health conditions including a kidney transplant.
He said the issue of debt profile has been over flogged with the revelation that APC controlled states are more indebted than PDP controlled states, while Delta is the least indebted state. Chief Uzor, while saying that the PDP led government in Delta state would always welcome criticisms, urged Deltans to discountenance the said report.
